Tag/Day 4 auf der/on QUEEN VICTORIA in Åndalsnes, Norway

Wieder Zeit für Walk a Mile. Allerdings versuche ich mich mal auf den oberen offenen Decks.



Time for Walk a Mile again. However, I'll try my hand at the upper open decks.

So I walked from the front to the back of the ship and rediscovered the ship as I did on QUEEN VICTORIA 2008. One thing stands out: there is no on-board photographer at all. Therefore, the pictures of the senior officers are also missing.



Ich laufe daher im Schiff von vorne nach hinten und entdecke wieder das Schiff wie damals auf der QUEEN VICTORIA 2008. Eine Sache fällt auf: es gibt gar keinen Bordfotografen an Bord. Daher fehlen auch die Bilder bei den Senior-Offizieren.

Ich habe Zeit, um mir die Hafen-Plaketten anzusehen. Auch finde ich ein schönes Zeugnis des ersten Royal Rendezvous in New York damals mit der QUEEN VICTORIA 2008.

Ich gehe zum Lido mal gucken, was es zum Frühstück gibt. Da wir früh von Bord wollen, hatte ich in Erwägung gezogen, hier zu frühstücken. Aber als wir um Unterbrechung meines Congee-Abonnements gebeten haben, hat man mir sofort angeboten, alles so vorzubereiten, dass wir sofort anfangen können, zu frühstücken.



I'm going to the Lido to see what's for breakfast. Since we wanted to disembark early, I had considered having breakfast here. But when we asked to interrupt my Congee subscription, I was immediately offered to prepare everything so we could start having breakfast directly.

Before the restaurant opens, we still have time for a first cappuccino: The early shift when we come: Arnold and Rufino. They're always lovely and drop everything, even if we tell them they can take their time.



Bevor das Restaurant aufmacht, haben wir noch Zeit für einen ersten Cappuccino: Die Frühschicht, wenn wir kommen: Arnold und Rufino. Die sind immer nett und lassen sofort immer alles fallen und stehen, auch wenn wir sagen, dass sie sich Zeit lassen können.

Alles ist fertig vorbereitet. Wir können sofort essen. Sicherheitshalber haben wir noch eine Tupperdose mit und nehmen uns zwei Brötchen mit, weil wir nicht wissen, ob es unterwegs etwas gibt. Unsere Trinkflaschen von Tupperware haben abschraubbare Mundstücke. Diese dürfen wir direkt im Lido abfüllen. Damit dürften wir auf der OOSTERDAM dann keine Probleme bekommen.



Everything is prepared. We can eat right away. To be safe, we still have a Tupperware with us and take two rolls with us because we don't know if there will be anything on the way. Our Tupperware drinking bottles have removable mouthpieces. We are allowed to fill these directly in the Lido, and we should be later okay with that on OOSTERDAM.





It's light now, and I'll take a look around. I'm enjoying the first impressions of Åndalsnes, Norway - it looks promising.



Jetzt ist es hell und ich sehe mich mal um. Ich genieße die ersten Eindrücke von Åndalsnes - das sieht vielversprechend aus.

Wir finden alle notwendigen Informationen im Tagesprogramm und nochmals am Ausgang. An der Rezeption gibt es eine Gesamtübersicht für alle Häfen. Das nervt, dass man die Route ohne Uhrzeiten veröffentlicht. So sehen wir erstmalig offiziell, dass wir nicht Übernacht in Tromsø und Narvik sehen, sondern bereits um 01:30 Uhr den Hafen verlassen. Inoffiziell weiß ich es bereits, nach dem es mir die Hafenverwaltungen bereits bestätigt hatten und ich so meine Ausflüge planen konnte.



We find all the necessary information in the daily program and again at the exit. At the reception, there is a general overview of all ports. It's annoying that the route is published without times. So for the first time, we officially see that we don't see overnight in Tromsø, Norway, and Narvik, Norway, but leave the harbor at 01:30 hrs. I already knew it unofficially after the port authorities had already confirmed it to me, and I was able to plan my trips.





We can photograph QUEEN VICTORIA very nicely in front of the ship and later again from the cable car.



Vor dem Schiff können wir sehr schön die QUEEN VICTORIA fotografieren und später nochmals von der Seilbahn aus.

Der Bahnhof von Åndalsnes liegt direkt vor dem Kreuzfahrtterminal. Wir haben direkt bei SJ Nord gebucht. Die schwedische Eisenbahn hat hier die Betriebsführung, obwohl wir in Norwegen sind. Wir haben feste Sitzplätze. Zu unserer Überraschung: die Gäste des Schiffsausflug sind auch an Bord. Es gibt aber ein paar wenige Reserveplätze für Last-Minute-Gäste.



Åndalsnes train station is right in front of the cruise terminal. We booked directly with SJ North, and Swedish Railways operates here, even though we are in Norway. We have assigned seats. To our surprise, the ship excursion guests are also on board. However, there are a few reserved spaces for last-minute guests.

It is said that the Rauma Railway is said to be more beautiful than the Swiss Panorama Trains. We know the Glacier Express, the Bernina Express, the Golden Pass Express, the Lucerne-Interlaken-Express, the Gotthard-Panorama-Express, the Centovalli, and the Voralpen Express. So it's not more amicable, and it is different. It is just as impressive as in Switzerland but beautiful in another way!



Es heißt, dass die Raumabahn schöner sein soll, als die Schweizer Panoramazüge. Wir kennen den Glacier-Express, den Bernina-Express, den Golden Pass Express, den Luzern-Interlaken-Express, der Gotthard-Panoramic-Express, den Centovalli, den Voralpen-Express. Also es ist nicht schöner. Es ist anders. Es ist genauso beeindruckend wie in der Schweiz, aber eben anders schön!

Nach ca. 1 1/2 Stunden kommen wir in Dombås an. Hier treffen wir auf die Strecke nach Oslo. Ein Kunde, der böse auf mich ist, oder mein Arbeitgeber wollen mich an meine Arbeit erinnern. Direkt neben mir am Bahnsteig steht ein Container von Yang Ming. Wozu bin ich extra nach Nordnorwegen gefahren?



After about 1 1/2 hours, we arrive in Dombås, Norway. Here we meet on the route to Oslo. A customer is angry with me, or my employer wants to remind me of my work. Right next to me on the platform is a Yang Ming container. Why did I go to Northern Norway specifically?

We could have saved ourselves the rolls. The train station is a five-minute walk from the town center. The others from the ship got off earlier and were brought back by bus, and others only got on again on the last leg back. There was only a little to see here except for the troll, which is part of every holiday in Norway.



Die Brötchen hätten wir uns ersparen können. Der Bahnhof liegt fünf Minuten zu Fuß vom Ortskern entfernt. Die anderen vom Schiff sind bereits vorher ausgestiegen und wurden mit dem Bus zurückgebracht und andere stiegen erst auf dem letzten Abschnitt zurück wieder zu. Viel gab es hier nicht zu sehen, außer den Troll, der zu jedem Norwegen Urlaub dazugehört.

Pudding-Plundergebäck und Kaffee müssen sein, wenn man in Norwegen ist. Also kehren wir in Frich's Kafe ein.



Pudding Danish pastries and coffee are a must when in Norway. So we stop at Frich's Kafe.

It also goes back. We booked the other side this time, which is well-resolved at SJ North. We are in a "vegan" train compartment and can book between windows, aisles, tables, and mobile phone reception in Germany. Animal-free is also possible here. Luckily we booked so early that we have vis-à-vis window seats, of which there are very few.



Es geht auch wieder zurück. Wir haben dieses Mal die andere Seite gebucht. Das ist gut bei SJ Nord gelöst. Wir sind in einem "veganen" Zugabteil. Wir können in Deutschland zwischen Fenster, Gang, Tisch, mit Handyempfang buchen. Hier geht auch tierfrei. Wir haben zum Glück so früh gebucht, dass wir vis-à-vis Fensterplätze haben, von denen es nur sehr wenige gibt.

Da das Schiff direkt vor dem Bahnhof steht, nutzen wir schnell die Gelegenheit, um an Bord eine Kleinigkeit zu essen.



Since the ship is right in front of the train station, we quickly take the opportunity to have a bite to eat on board.





The Romsdalen cable car takes you up the local mountain directly in front of the ship. We should have known that the cable car only runs every 30 minutes: then we would have gone for a little walk. On the other hand, the early arrival gave us the best places to photograph QUEEN VICTORIA.



Mit der Romsdalen Seilbahn geht es direkt vor dem Schiff hoch auf den Hausberg. Wir hätten wissen sollen, dass nur jede 30 Minuten die Seilbahn fährt: dann wären wir noch ein wenig spazieren gegangen. Andererseits hatte der frühe Einstieg uns die besten Plätze zum Fotografieren der QUEEN VICTORIA ermöglicht.

Solange das Wetter schön ist, nutzen wir die Chance uns alles von oben anzusehen: Wunderschön. Die Fahrt nach oben war ja nicht gerade billig, aber preiswert!



As long as the weather is nice, we take the chance to see everything from above: beautiful. The trip to the top wasn't cheap, but it was good value!

So with tea time, we usually take more than a little bit... And we need tea time on board. And that's why we're allowed to eat the second piece of cake today in the Eggen restaurant on top of the mountain and enjoy the spectacular view.



Also bei der Tea-Time nehmen wir ja auch i.d.R. mehr als ein winziges kleines Stückchen... Und wir verzichten auf die Tea-Time an Bord. Und daher dürfen wir heute auch ein zweites Stück Kuchen im Eggen-Restaurant oben auf dem Berg zu uns nehmen und die spektakuläre Aussicht genießen.

Einer der wenigen organisatorischen Schwächen dieser Reise: Die Abfahrt zum Sonnenuntergang im Romsdalsfjord. Ich fand auf unseren Reisen BOUDICCA 2009, WESTERDAM 2010 und MIDNATSOL 2012 gehörten die Fahrten durch die Fjorde zu den spektakulärsten Teilen jeder Reise und hier sehen wir nur sehr wenig, weil es schnell dunkel wird. Echt schade.



One of the few organizational weaknesses of this trip: was the departure at sunset in the Romsdalsfjord. I have found our BOUDICCA 2009, WESTERDAM 2010, and MIDNATSOL 2012 voyages to be one of the most spectacular parts of each journey through the fjords, and here we see very little as it gets dark quickly. Too bad.

In the Commodore Club, you can certainly follow the exit very nicely.



Im Commodore Club kann man sicherlich die Ausfahrt sehr schön verfolgen.

Mittlerweile haben sie doch ein Schild aufgestellt, damit wir uns treffen. Nur heute ist es blöd: alle gucken sich die Ausfahrt an.



They've put up a sign so we can meet up. Only today, it's stupid: everyone looks at the set sail.

We've had precisely one drink here at Melissa's, and she knows my name and cabin number: is my mug shot already on I-95 in the crew area??? It was always a pleasure to be served by her. When I wrote the blog, we were in Switzerland at "Im Weißen Rößl" (The White Horse Inn) performance. Christoph, who we know from QUEEN MARY 2 2017, is playing here. On the stage, the head waiter Leopold says, "Colleague is coming soon". Something we never heard from Melissa and Sojan.



Wir hatten genau einen Drink hier bei Melissa bisher und sie kennt meinen Namen und meine Kabinennummer: ist mein Fahndungs-Foto bereits auf der I-95 im Crewbereich??? Es war immer ein Vergnügen, von ihr bedient zu werden. Als der Blog geschrieben wird, sind wir gerade in der Schweiz bei der Aufführung von "Im Weißen Rößl". Christoph, den wir von der QUEEN MARY 2 2017 kennen, spielt hier mit. Auf der Bühne fällt der Spruch "Kollege kommt gleich" durch den Oberkellner Leopold. Etwas, das wir nie bei Melissa und Sojan gehört haben.

Auf zum Abendessen: anscheinend wird zuviel gekocht... aber Chocolate Marquis gab es doch erst gestern... Haben wir eigentlich Ziegen an Bord? QUEEN MARY 2 hat Hunde an Bord. Wir vielleicht Ziegen. Die Angebot an Gerichten mit Ziegenkäse ist doch erstaunlich groß...



Off to dinner: apparently, there is too much cooking... but Chocolate Marquis was only available yesterday... Do we have goats on board? QUEEN MARY 2 has dogs on board, and we may be goats. The range of dishes with goat cheese is surprisingly extensive...
