Tag/Day 1.1 auf der/on QUEEN MARY 2 in Southampton, England

Am Flughafen werden wir wohl von einem Puffin verabschiedet... Auf jeden Fall reagiert er nicht auf meine Frage, ob er ein Puffin sei...



At the airport a puffin bidded farewell... He did not react when I asked him if he might be a puffin.

Our flight was ahead of time: we took-off earlier and we landed earlier.



Unser Flug ist überpünktlich: wir starten früher und wir landen früher.

An Bord gibt es ein warmes Frühstück. Aber da ich auch McDonald's grundsätzlich meinen Burger ohne Ketchup bestelle, ist das nichts für mich...



On board you get hot breakfast. But as I order with McDonald's all burgers without ketchup this was nothing for me.

While we were waiting for our bags we read how to continue the travel.



Während wir auf unser Gepäck warten, gucken wir, wie man so weiterkommt.

Im Terminal 5 wird man gut informiert.

Leider hat es ein Koffer nicht geschafft. Wir haben auch so schön alles umgepackt, dass British Airways keinen Ärger gemacht hat. Der Unterlagen-/Smoking-/Anzug-Koffer ist weg. Ein semi-formeller Abend erwartet uns an Bord. Wir melden uns sofort beim Gepäckdienst und erklären die Situation. Die nächste Maschine landet um 13.15 Uhr in Heathrow. Da auch ein paar Flugbegleiter aus Newcastle, die zum Dienst müssen, ihr Gepäck vermissen, rufen die direkt den Stationsleiter in Newcastle an und falten ihn zusammen. Er gesteht unter ein paar nicht so freundlichen Worten, dass wohl ein Container in Newcastle stehen geblieben ist. Unsere deutsche Anschrift geben wir nicht weiter, sondern nur die Anschrift vom Schiff und unsere Abfahrtszeit in Southampton, sowie die Notfallnummer von Cunard. So wie es im A-Z beschrieben wurde.



In Terminal 5 you are well informed.

One bag did not make it. We repacked everything so British Airways did not make any trouble. The (used) documents/tuxedo-/suit-bag has not arrived. We have a semi-formal night onboard.

We reported immediately to the baggage service and explained the situation. Next arrival would be 13.15 hrs. Some flight attendants from Newcastle on duty but missing their bags as well called the Station Manager in Newcastle and told him some nice words which I better should not repeat. He confirmed that one container was not loaded. We did not tell them our German address, just the ship's and pier's address and our departure time in Southampton. Furthermore they go Cunard's Emergency Phone No. So we did everything which was mentioned in the pre-cruise documents.

Looking for the exit to the car rental shuttles we recognized that there is a baggage storage for the next time.



Wir suchen den Ausgang zu den Shuttle-Bussen und sehen hier, dass es auch eine Gepäckaufbewahrung gibt.

Und dort geht es zu den Shuttlebussen zu den Mietwagenfirmen.

Warum muss unsere Haltestelle so weit weg liegen???



Why need our stop to be so far away?

For the next time I know: No need to walk downstairs to the Underground Station to buy tickets for London Public Transport.



Für das nächste Mal weiss ich: ich muss nicht extra in die U-Bahn-Station runter, um Tickets für die Londoner Verkehrsmittel zu kaufen.

Wegen der Gepäckanhänger werden wir als CUNARD-Gäste identifiziert. 100 USD pro Person waren kein Argument, um den Mietwagen zu stornieren und den Service von CUNARD zu nutzen.



Due to our baggage tags we were identified as Cunard-guests. 100 USD per person was no reason to cancel the car rental and to use the Cunard-Transfer.

The fountains at the terminal are really an attraction.



Der Springbrunnen am Terminal ist ein echter Hingucker.

Es tut einfach gut, dass wir mal bei paar Sekunden abschalten können und dem Wasserspiel zugucken können. Solange es nicht ausartet wie bei NCL...



It's relaxing to watch the water playing for few moments. As it's not like NCL-style.

At the taxi stand we just inform us for the worst case... 275 GBP to Dover.

215 GBP nach Southampton. Ein gutes Argument zum Vorbestellen... kostet bloß 125 GBP herum...

Ja - wir sind hier richtig.

Few minutes later we are at the car rental station as Terminal 5 is at the other side of Europcar (National/Alamo).



Wenige Minuten später sind wir bereits an der Autovermietstation, da Terminal 5 ja am westlichen Rand des Flughafengeländes liegt und daher nicht so weit weg von Europcar ist.

Neu ist jedoch, dass wir uns den Wagen selbst aussuchen dürfen. Man bekommt eine Parkfläche zugeteilt und man darf selbst suchen. Ich suche mir einen Nissan Qashqai aus, den ich gerne fahre. Wir haben viel Platz für uns und unser Gepäck, das nicht angekommen ist... Gegen 11.30 Uhr fahren wir in Heathrow los.

Wir haben uns wieder selbst zusatzversichert, um den Eigenanteil auf Null zu senken:

New : you can choose your own car. The allocate the parking area and you choose. I choosed a Nissa Qashqai. So we have a lot of space for us and our bags which did not arrived. Around 11.30 hrs we left Heathrow.

Aha und bald tauchen die ersten Schilder für Southampton auf...

Und dann muss man aufpassen, dass man die M3 Richtung Southampton erwischt.

Dann geht es nach gut 60 Meilen nach links auf die M27 Southampton Docks.

Hier verliert man schon den Überblick, weil man so schnell gar nicht alles lesen kann.

Aber dann wird wieder alles klar.

We knew this road from our stays in Hythe.



Die Straße kennen wir, weil wir auch hier zum Hafen fahren, wenn wir in Hythe übernachten.

Und bis Southampton haben wir es geschafft. Es ist jetzt ca. 13.00 Uhr.



We made it to Southampton. It's about 13.00 hrs.

Now we have to keep to the right.



Jetzt sollten wir uns nach rechts orientieren.

Gut, dass man unterwegs immer informiert wird, wohin man muss.

Endlich am Tor 4.

Noch ein letzter Kreisverkehr.



One more roundabout/rotary.

After filling up we returned the car to Europcar (National/Alamo). There is no more service available at Ibis-Hotel. And this station is closed on Sunday.



Nach dem Auftanken bringen wir den Wagen zu Europcar zurück. Leider gibt es die Abgabestelle am Ibis-Hotel in der Nähe vom City Cruise Terminal nicht mehr. Und die Station hat leider sonntags geschlossen.

Zumindest kann man dort das Auto abgeben. Aber wer ruft dann einem ein Taxi???



You can return the car. But who will call you a taxi?

They were accepting to call a taxi but not to drive us around.



Sie rufen uns gerne ein Taxi, aber fahren uns nicht herum.

Also vis-às von Ikea als Orientierungspunkt. Für etwa 5 GBP kommen wir zum Cruise Terminal zurück.



So opposite of IKEA as orientation. For about 5 GBP we get back to the Cruise Terminal.
