Hier wäre wohl eine Isolierstation? Lt. Deckplan wäre dahinter ein Teil des Spas. Auf der QUEEN MARY 2 2022 war dahinter die Isolierstation.

Einige der wenigen Orte, in denen wir uns unsicher fühlen: der Gang zum Britannia Restaurant auf Deck 2. Hier stehen alle nahe beieinander und warten auf den Einlass ins Restaurant. Abstände werden kaum eingehalten und die Decke hier ist besonders niedrig. Da es sich um einen Schlauch handelt, habe ich nicht den Eindruck, dass hier die Belüftung hier sehr gut ist. Früher war der Bereich des Britannia Clubs eine Bar und so konnte sich die Luft gut ausbreiten. Aber jetzt eben nicht mehr. Am Eingang erwartet uns eine Überraschung: Maître D' Grzegorz kenne ich seit meiner Reise auf der QUEEN MARY 2 2014. Zufällig werden wir in der Nähe unseres Stammplatzes während der QUEEN VICTORIA 2008 in der äußersten Ecke hinter der Säule platziert. Damals haben wir oben auf "Silicon Valley" geschaut. Überall Spuren von Silikon und viele Fehlschnitte. Aber jetzt ist alles weg. Sie hatten ja 15 Jahre Zeit. Ich bekomme meinen Sonderwunsch: Congee. Aber nicht ganz so schön, wie auf der QUEEN MARY 2 2022. Dort wird es mit gekochtem Ei und Lauchzwiebeln serviert. Ich hätte es sagen können, aber ich freue mich, ja schon darüber, dass sie es für mich machen. Das ist sonst Essen wie bei meiner Mutter. Also, wenn ich mich wie zu Hause fühlen soll, dann auf jeden Fall hier beim Frühstück. Da ich leider kein Congee aus der Crew Galley bekomme, wird es für mich frisch zubereitet. Ich erfahre, dass sie Schokoladen-Congee in der Crew Galley hätten... Wir erleben einen ganz tollen Service. Danke an Ruffel, Abner und Warren. Wir fühlen uns sehr wohl hier.



One of the few places we feel unsafe: is the walkway to the Britannia Restaurant on deck 2. Here everyone stands close together and waits to enter the restaurant. Distances are hardly maintained, and the ceiling here is shallow. Since it is a hose, the ventilation here is not excellent. The Britannia Club area used to be a bar, so the air was able to spread well. But not anymore. A surprise awaits us at the entrance: I've known Maître D' Grzegorz since my trip on the QUEEN MARY 2 2014. We happen to be seated near our regular place during the QUEEN VICTORIA 2008 in the farthest corner behind the pillar. Back then, we looked up "Silicon Valley". Traces of silicone everywhere and many miscuts. But now everything is gone. You had 15 years. I get my special request: Congee. But not quite as nice as on the QUEEN MARY 2 2022. There it is served with boiled eggs and spring onions. I could have said it, but I'm glad they're doing it for me. It's usually like my mother's food. Well, if I'm supposed to feel at home, then definitely at breakfast. Unfortunately, since I can't get congee from the crew galley, it's freshly prepared for me. I find out that they have chocolate congee in the crew galley... We experience excellent service. Thanks to Ruffel, Abner and Warren. We feel very comfortable here.

Our oasis of well-being: the Chart Room. There is no Sir Samuel on QUEEN VICTORIA. There are not only hot coffee specialties here but also cold coffee and tea drinks, for which our drinks package applies. So absolutely perfect for us. I meet Bar Supervisor Chrystal, who confirms there is Clamato on board and makes sure Clamato is also available for dinner in the Britannia Restaurant. I meet Carlos Arias again. He was a musician at DISNEY DREAM 2014 and DISNEY DREAM 2015. The pandemic... now he's here as a bar manager. I had to laugh when I read the name.



Unsere Wohlfühloase: der Chart Room. Auf der QUEEN VICTORIA gibt es keinen Sir Samuel. Hier gibt es nicht nur die heißen Kaffeespezialitäten, sondern auch die kalten Kaffee- und Teegetränke, für die unser Getränkepaket gilt. Für uns also absolut perfekt. Ich lerne Bar Supervisor Chrystal kennen, die mir bestätigt, dass es Clamato an Bord gibt und sorgt dafür, dass für das Abendessen auch Clamato im Britannia Restaurant verfügbar ist. Ich treffe Carlos Arias wieder. Er war damals Musiker auf der DISNEY DREAM 2014 und DISNEY DREAM 2015. Die Pandemie... jetzt ist er hier als Bar Manager. Ich musste lachen, als ich den Namen gelesen habe.

Ein Problem ist immer noch nicht gelöst: Unsere Bordguthaben. Uns fehlen immer noch 100 USD. Mihaela ist die Leiterin des Purser's Desk. Ich bin etwas frustriert: wir sollen nochmals alle Nachweise führen, dass wir alles eingereicht haben: Carnival-Aktionäre, vorausgeleistete Anzahlungen, Future Cruise Credits. Das Gespräch verläuft alles andere als gut. Speziell, weil ich nicht nochmals mit ihr sprechen kann: sie gab mir das Gefühl, dass sie sich darum kümmert und die Probleme löst und dann hat sie das Schiff im nächsten Hafen verlassen. So schlimm bin ich ja als Gast auch nicht, dass sie direkt kündigen müssen...



One problem still needs to be solved: our onboard credit. We still need 100 USD. Mihaela is the manager of the purser's desk. I'm frustrated: we're supposed to re-establish all the evidence that we've submitted everything: Carnival shareholders, advance payments, and future cruise credits. The conversation could be better. Mainly because I couldn't speak to her again: she made me feel like she took care of it and solved the problems, and then she got off the ship in the next port. I'm not that bad as a guest that you have to cancel right away...

Somehow Facebook/Cruisecritic Meet & Greet: I've rarely experienced it on numerous trips. Somehow it was also like this: the person who started the roll call had yet to follow it himself. I then asked if anyone was interested. A few people got in touch, but only Brigitte came: If you plan it from the outside, you need to know what the planning is like on board. At the same time, the port presentation of Tromsø was running in the theatre.



Irgendwie Facebook/Cruisecritic Meet & Greet: habe ich eigentlich auf den zahlreichen Fahrten bisher selten erlebt. Irgendwie war es auch so: derjenige, der den Roll-Call gestartet hat, hatte das selbst nicht verfolgt. Ich hatte dann mal gefragt, ob jemand Interesse hätte. Es haben sich ein paar gemeldet, aber nur Brigitte kam: Wenn man es von außen plant, weiß man ja nicht, wie die Planung an Bord ist. Zeitgleich lief nämlich die Hafenpräsentation von Tromsø im Theater.

Ich kann mich an die QUEEN VICTORIA 2008 erinnern. Das wurde damals auch erst an Bord arrangiert. Ich bekomme den versprochenen Anruf und verabreden uns.

Bruno wird dringend in der Firma gebraucht. In unserer Kabine kann er ja nicht in Ruhe telefonieren. So läuft er durch die öffentlichen Räume, um den besten Empfang zu bekommen.

Da die Bibliothekarin nett und freundlich ist, aber inhaltlich kaum weiterhelfen kann, treffe ich mich mit Guest Operations Manager Belinda. Wie sich im Gespräch herausstellt: auch sie kann mir inhaltlich nicht weiterhelfen (z. B. LAN-Kabel, um das WLAN-Loch zu überbrücken, Reset des Routers). Ein Umzug würde auch nichts bringen, weil wohl alle Kabinen wegen der Türen betroffen sind. Das erklärt auch immer die vielen Gäste, die immer im Türrahmen herumlungern, und dort surfen. Auf machen Gängen erinnert das ein wenig an die Herbertstraße in Hamburg... Daher kann sie mir auch keinen Umzug in eine andere Kabine anbieten (außer ich hätte gesagt, dass ich Covid-19 positiv wäre... aber bekäme ich dann noch den Cappuccino vom Chart Room in die Kabine???). Wir einigen uns eben: wir gucken uns das an, wie sich das entwickelt und am Schluss findet ggfls. eine Preisanpassung an. Wir vertrauen dieser Aussage und buchen beide dann den Premium-Pass bis zum Ende der Fahrt.



Since the librarian is nice and friendly but can hardly help with the content, I meet with Guest Operations Manager Belinda. As the conversation turns out, she cannot help me with the range either (e.g., LAN cable to bridge the WLAN gap and reset the router). A move would not help because the doors probably affect all cabins. That always explains the many guests who are always hanging around in the door frame and surfing there. In some corridors, it reminds me a little of Herbertstraße in Hamburg... That's why she can't offer me a move to another cabin (unless I had said that I was Covid-19 positive... but then I would still get the cappuccino from the chart room to the cabin???). We agree: we'll look at how it develops and at the end we'll find if necessary. A price adjustment. We trust this statement, and then both book the premium pass until the end of the journey.

Unsere tägliche Lektüre. Früher war die Schokolade von Godiva - allerdings nicht aus Belgien sondern aus der Türkei. Heute gibt es keine Herstellerinformationen mehr. Vielleicht ist das ja auf der QUEEN MARY 2 anders, weil man ja dort im Sir Samuel's mit Godiva kooperiert.

It's back to lunch. I speak to the head waiter from last night, and he doesn't remember me. But it has to be said: there was only one meal where I saw him on the QUEEN MARY 2 2014. At that time, he struck me as a "fire extinguisher", "circus tamer", and "crisis manager". The Britannia restaurant on deck 2 was so crowded for breakfast that an area on deck 3 had to be opened spontaneously. He was in charge at the time. It ran there like a Swiss clockwork because he was a small cog that made the clockwork run.



Es geht wieder zum Mittagessen. Ich spreche den Head Waiter von gestern Abend an und er kann sich an mich noch nicht so richtig erinnern. Man muss aber dazu sagen: es gab nur eine einzige Mahlzeit, bei der ich ihn auf der QUEEN MARY 2 2014 erlebt habe. Damals fiel er mir als "Feuerlöscher", "Zirkusdompteur", "Krisenmanager" auf. Das Britannia-Restaurant war so auf Deck 2 zum Frühstück überlaufen, dass man auf Deck 3 einen Bereich spontan öffnen musste. Das hatte er damals geleitet. Es lief dort ab, wie ein Schweizer Uhrwerk, weil er eben selbst ein kleines Zahnrad war, dass das Uhrwerk zum Laufen brachte.

Ein weiteres Klassik-Highlight Carlos Bonell: Klassik-Gitarre und sehr viel mehr. Es erinnert mich an Justin Miller damals auf der EURODAM 2009. Auch ein spitzenmäßiger Gitarrist. Es wird nicht nur Klassik gespielt, sondern auch sehr viel modernes. Er spricht über den Gitarristen Narcisco Yepes. So spielt der Jeux Interdit. Ich bin hin und weg. Er kündigt bereits für die nächste Session Recuerdos de la Alhambra an. Ich laufe sofort zu ihm und will bereits Tickets für die nächste Vorstellung haben...



Another classical highlight Carlos Bonell: classical guitar and much more. It reminds me of Justin Miller back at EURODAM 2009. A top notch guitarist too. Not only classical music is played, but also a lot of modern music. He talks about guitarist Narcisco Yepes. This is how the Jeux Interdit plays. I'm blown away. He is already announcing Recuerdos de la Alhambra for the next session. I run to him immediately and already want tickets for the next performance...

After the concert you are thrown out for a short time so that the Queens' Room can be prepared for teatime.

Bei der QUEEN VICTORIA 2008-Reise haben wir vis-à-vis vom Waschsalon geschlafen. Das machen wir nie wieder. Das ist genauso so schlimm wie gegenüber eines Serviceraums. Wie ein Taubenschlag. Wir sind am 2. Tag und schon sind alle Waschmaschinen voll in Betrieb. Deswegen muss ich die Bilder später am Abend machen, als niemand mehr da ist. Auf der QUEEN ELIZABETH 2 2007 war es gemütlicher: ein großer Tisch an dem man noch Bridge spielen konnte. Dort trafen sich am Tag der Einschiffung die wahren Freaks, die mit dreckiger Wäsche einschiffen und sofort Wäsche waschen und Karten spielen. Das geht hier leider nicht: mangels Spieltisch. Vielleicht sollte man mal eine Waschmaschine in den Kartenraum reinstellen.



During the QUEEN VICTORIA 2008 trip, we slept across from the launderette. We'll never do that again. This is just as bad as facing a service room like a dovecote. We are on the 2nd day, and all the washing machines are already operating. That's why I have to take the pictures later in the evening when nobody is there. It was more comfortable on the QUEEN ELIZABETH 2 2007: a large table where you could still play bridge. That's where the real freaks met on the day of embarkation, who embark with dirty laundry and immediately do laundry and play cards. Unfortunately, that is not possible here: there is no gaming table. Let's put a washing machine in the card room.

Ich gehe mal zum Lido Alternative Dining und erkundige mich nach den Themen der Abende. Zufällig erfahre ich, dass es auf dieser Reise noch ein zusätzliches Thema gibt: Nordlys. Nordlicht. Spezialitäten aus Norwegen. Das hatten wir bisher noch nie. Das möchten wir auf jeden Fall ausprobieren. Die Karte klingt toll. Leider gibt es nur an vier Abenden. Davon ist ein formeller Abend und ein Abend in The Verandah dabei. Kurzerhand buchen wir The Verandah um und buchen einen Abend im Lido Alternative Dining.

Heute Abend ist Schwarz-Weiß-Nacht. So liegt in Schwarz-Weiß ein Gruß vom Kapitän. "Individualisiert": Bruno und ich haben unterschiedliche Grüße des Kapitäns. Bruno von einem deutschen Autor und ich von einem japanischen Autor... Schlecht recherchiert, falls man versuchen wollte, es passend zu machen, da ich auf Taiwan geboren bin... aber lange nach der japanischen Besetzung. Einen Kapitänsempfang gibt es ja immer noch nicht. Es gibt ja drei Galaabende: da muss man wohl die kulinarischen Highlights wohl auf drei Abende aufteilen.



Tonight is black and white night. So there is a greeting from the captain in black and white. "Individualized": Bruno and I have different greetings from the captain. Bruno by a German author and I by a Japanese author... they poorly researched if you were trying to make it appropriate as I was born in Taiwan... but long after the Japanese occupation. There still needs to be the captain's reception. There are three gala evenings: you have to split the culinary highlights over three evenings.

It goes to the first production show. A total of four are shown. The first is called "Be our Guest". It reminds me of "Beauty and the Beast"; accordingly, I would have typed in the direction. Unfortunately, the spark didn't jump over me: I hardly knew any of the songs. But when I went out, I also heard other English-speaking native speakers who didn't recognize many of the songs either. I am reassured. Probably still a relic of the Princess /Cunard Academy to design their musicals for which you don't have to pay any copyrights. That's what the music sounded like. I might have known three or four pieces. I hope it doesn't go on like this.



Es geht zur ersten Production-Show. Insgesamt werden vier gezeigt. Die erste heißt "Be our Guest". Erinnert mich eigentlich an die "Schöne und das Biest" und dementsprechend hätte ich in die Richtung getippt. Leider sprang bei mir der Funke nicht über: ich kannte kaum eines der Lieder. Aber beim Rausgehen hörte ich auch andere englischsprachige Muttersprachler, dass sie auch viele Lieder nicht erkannt haben. Ich bin beruhigt. Vermutlich noch ein Relikt der Princess-/Cunard-Akademie um selbst Musicals zu entwerfen, für die man dann keine Urheberrechte zahlen muss. So klang das Musical auch. Ich glaube so drei oder vier Stücke könnte ich gekannt haben. Ich hoffe ja nicht, dass es so weiter geht.
