Tag/Day 0 Pre-Cruise vor der/before QUEEN ELIZABETH in London, England

Normalerweise sind wir im Januar immer für etwas länger weg. Aber da wir dieses Jahr erst im März uns auf die ZAANDAM begeben werden, wollten wir mit der Reise nur ein paar Tage überbrücken. Zufällig entdeckte ich diese Reise lange bevor sie in Deutschland zum Verkauf stand bei Cruise Thomas Cook in Großbritannien und wie üblich habe ich sie bei Louise gebucht. Zu einem wirklichen "Apfel und Ei"-Preis, den es wirklich nur für wenige Tage gab. Daher haben wir uns auch einen Balkon gegönnt, um die Einfahrt auf der richtigen Seite in Hamburg zu genießen. Dieses Mal sollte sie auch nicht so früh sein. Zu einem sehr frühen Zeitpunkt konnte man noch die richtigen Ankunftszeiten sehen. Nun haben sie aber umgestellt, und kann nur noch Tagesabschnitte mit Mindestaufenthaltszeiten sehen, die man beliebig interpretieren kann.



Normally we are out in January for a longer journey. But as we go this year in March on ZAANDAm we only wanted to bridge a few days. By coincidence I found this voyage with Cruise Thomas Cook in UK and booked it as always with Louise. At a real bargain which you could get for a few days only. So we afforded a balcony to enjoy the passage itno Hamburg on the right side. This time it should not be as early as last time. At a very early period you could also the real sailing times. Now they changed and you the day period incl. min. length of stay which might be anything.

To our surprise we later found out that there was no need for a balcony as we will arrive at the new Altona-Terminal. Looks like that we will not have the passage to the Landing Stages with people waving us.



Zu unserer großen Überraschung hätten wir uns den Balkon schenken können, denn wir kommen in Altona an. Sieht also so aus, als ob es nichts damit wird, dass wir an den Landungsbrücken vorbeifahren und die Bevölkerung uns zuwinkt.

Nach dem wir damals durch DIE Aschewolke Windsor Castle nicht besuchen konnten, wollten wir es dieses Mal wieder versuchen. Die königliche Post kam an.



After THE ash cloud did not permit our visit to Windsor Castle we wanted to try it again. The Royal mail arrived.

So we had all files and a guide book. But no signature of Queen Elizabeth II.



Und darin schon alle Unterlagen und einen Reiseführer. Leider hat Königin Elizabeth II. sie nicht unterschrieben.

Zu unserer Überraschung bot uns British Airways für sehr wenig Geld ein Upgrade in die Business Class an. Das haben wir gerne angenommen. Zwischendurch waren wir wieder mit ihnen unterwegs, aber da waren sie so gut gebucht, dass es kein Angebot gab. Und dieses Mal hat Bruno die 007-Bordkarte erwischt. Passend zum Flug nach London.



To our surprise British Airways offered us for really little money an upgrade to Business Class which we appreciated and accepted. Meanwhile we used them again but they were booked so well that there was no upgrade offer. And this time Bruno got the 007-bording pass. Fits perfectly to the flight to London.

British Airways closed their lounge in Frankfurt. So we had to see the Sakura Lounge of Japan Airlines.

Hier ticken die Uhren wirklich anders.



But they lived here in a total different world with a different timing.

They really had Japanese toilets. I love them and really good reasons to book only airlines which use this lounge.



Es gibt hier tatsächlich japanische Toiletten. Ich liebe sie und Grund genug bloß noch Fluggesellschaften zu nutzen, die diese Lounge nutzen.

Hier sogar eine Bedienungsanleitung: Der WC klappt automatisch auf, wenn man die Kabine betriff, man kann den WC-Sitz vorwärmen, seine eigenen natürlichen Geräusche durch andere simulierte Geräusche überdecken, den Wasserdruck für das Bidet einstellen.



Here you find the instructions. The cover automatically swing to open once you enter the booth. You could warm up the seat. You can overnoise your natural noises by simulated noises and you can control the water pressure before you clean your butt.

Needless to say that you have a nice selection.



Ansonsten muss man sagen, dass es eine nette Auswahl gab.

Und eben typisch japanisch: ständig wurde streng darauf geachtet, dass alles schön präsentiert wurde.



And typical Japanese: somebody always looked for a proper presentation of the food.

We had only a small bite (for both of us)

Tonight we had the 19.40 hrs-flight to Heathrow.



Dieses Mal geht es bereits um 19.40 Uhr nach Heathrow.

Und wieder mussten wir mit dem Bus zum Flugzeug fahren. Aber dafür kamen wir später in Heathrow direkt gegenüber der Einreisekontrolle im Terminal 5 an. Obwohl die Schlangen ewig lang waren: Alle Schalter waren besetzt, so dass es eigentlich ganz schnell ging. Da ich irrtümlich Brunos Reisepass in den Koffer gepackt habe, konnten wir die ePass-Spuren nicht nutzen. Aber dort ging es langsamer voran, als bei uns mit dem Personalausweis.



And again we had to take the bus to the aircraft. But later in Heathrow we arrived just adjustant to the immigration control at Terminal 5. Although the queue was endless it went quite quickly as all lines were occupied. By mistake I packed Bruno's passport into the checked bags so we could not use the ePass-lines. But it was slower than using the ID-card.

So we took the first row.



So haben wir uns die 1. Reihe gegönnt.

Ärgerlich bloß: wir hatten bereits vor dem Upgrade-Angebot die Notausgangsplätze für 12,00 EUR gesichert. Hätten wir uns die 1. Reihe vorab gesichert, hätten wir 25,00 EUR zahlen müssen. Dazu fehlte mir jedoch das Verständnis. Und die 12,00 EUR gab es auch nicht zurück.



A little angry: before I got the upgrade-offer I booked for 12.00 EUR the emergency exit row. Fixing the 1st row would be 25.00 EUR. But I did not want to pay this. So I lost the 12.00 EUR from the seat-assignment before.

As we use the same housekeeping company like many airlines in Frankfurt I use the hot towel always to clean my table and armrest. The purser was very much amused. Nice that she was able to laugh. But I dislike the prints of coffee cups and bread crumbs from the previous passengers.



Da wir die gleiche Putzfirma haben, wie viele Fluggesellschaften in Frankfurt putze ich immer mit meinem Saunatuch als erstes die Tische und Armlehnen. Die Purserin lacht sich darüber kaputt. Schön, dass ich zu ihrer Aufmunterung beitragen konnte. Aber ich mag nun mal keine Tassenabdrücke und Brotkrümel vom Vorgänger auf meinem Klapptisch.

Aus irgendeinem Grund stand im Computer, dass ich ein Special Meal wollte. So konnte ich mir zwischen Hühnchen und Shrimps auswählen. Aber der Teller mit Hühnchen war voller.



Somehow it was marked in the computer that I wanted a special meal. So I could choose between chicken and shrimps. But the plate with the chicken was more.

Very nice cups of British Airways... Of course I took a cup of English tea when we are flying British Airways to England while Bruno stayed with his coffee.



Sehr schön sind die Tassen von British Airways... Natürlich nehme ich eine Tasse englischen Tee, wenn wir schon mit British Airways nach England fliegen, während Bruno beim Kaffee bleibt.

Kurz vor London merken wir doch das Sturmtief. Es werden Tüten aus der Business Class geholt und sie hinten in der Economy Class verteilt, nachdem anscheinend keine Tüten mehr hinten da sind. Als wir zwei Schleifen über London drehen, bekomme ich Panik, dass wir vielleicht nach Paris umgeleitet werden.



Just shortly before we arrived in London the storm arrived. They took the bags from the Business Class to the Economy Class as they ran out with bags. When we had to do two loop over London I was afraid that we might be diverted to Paris.

The lady at the check-in said that it would not make any sense to tag the bags as Priority Bags as she was right. Our bags were delivered as last bags. We missed two Hotel Hoppa-buses (every 30 minutes). We had to carry one more bag as Cunard still have three dress codes and so each of us need two suits (incl. tuxedo).



Die Dame beim Check-in in Frankfurt hatte uns vorgewarnt. Die Priority-Anhänger bringen nichts. Unser Gepäck kommt als letztes raus. Zwei Hotel Hoppa-Busse (fahren alle 30 Minuten) haben wir bereits verpasst. Wir haben wir wieder einen Koffer mehr bei, weil wir für Cunard einen Anzug und einen Smoking mitführen. Denn sie haben ja immer noch drei Kleidervorschriften.

Wir nutzen den Hotel Hoppa. Unser Hotel ist mit dem H6 zu erreichen, wenn man ab Terminal 1/3 (2 ist geschlossen) fährt und H56, wenn man ab Terminal 5 und 4 fährt. Tickets gibt es am Südausgang. Blöderweise fährt der Bus aber am Nordausgang ab.



We used the Hotel Hoppa. Our hotel is connected by H6 if you leave from Terminal 1/3 (Terminal 2 is shut down) and H56 if you leave from Terminal 5 and 4. Tickets are available at the Southern exit area while the buses leave from the Northern exit area of the terminal building.

Every 30 minutes. Only two hotels are allowed to provide free shuttles as they are based on the airport ground: Hilton at Terminal 4 and Sofitel at Terminal 5. You can use for free few public buses but you need to walk at the end of the journey for a block or you need to use the subway to Terminal 1/3 and transfer.



Alle 30 Minuten. Es gibt nur zwei Hotels, die kostenlose Shuttles anbieten dürfen, weil sie direkt auf dem Flughafengelände sind: das Hilton am Terminal 4 und das neue Sofitel am Terminal 5. Es gibt aber auch kostenlose öffentliche Busse, die man benutzen darf, aber entweder läuft man samt Gepäck einen Block am Ende der Busfahrt bis zum Hotel oder man muss erst mit der U-Bahn zum Terminal 1/3 fahren.

So wartet Bruno an der Haltestelle 26/27 auf den Bus, während ich schnell nochmals bei Mark & Spencers im Terminal noch ein paar Flaschen Wasser kaufe. Übrigens: wer noch Zeit hat, sollte die Tickets im Terminal kaufen: hier kosten sie bloß 4,00 GBP, während sie im Bus 4,50 GBP kosten.



So Bruno waited at the stop 26/27 for the bus while I went quickly for Mark & Spencers to buy some water in the terminal. By the way: who still have time should buy the tickets in the terminal: here they are only 4.00 GBP. With the driver it's 4.50 GBP.

For about 50.00 USD we stayed at the Ibis Hotel.



Für umgerechnet 41,00 EUR wohnen wir im Ibis.

Erinnert alles sehr an enge Kreuzfahrtkabinen.



Reminded very much to narrow cruise ship cabins.





Almost it was clean and you had everything you need.



Eigentlich ist alles da und sauber.

Nur das Bad könnte mal saniert werden.

We finished the evening at the bar with Hans-Hermann (whom we knew from NORWEGIAN JADE Rotterdam - Le Havre - St. Peter Port - Southampton) and Tinama (from a German forum: Christina and Axel).



Den Abend lassen wir noch an der Bar mit Hans-Hermann (kennen wir von der NORWEGIAN JADE Rotterdam - Le Havre - St. Peter Port - Southampton) und Tinamama (Christina und Axel) ausklingen.

Nur Carmen fehlt in der Runde, da sie krank ist und daher nicht mitkommen konnte. Schade. An dieser Stelle gute Besserung. Wir hatten uns schon sehr darauf gefreut sie wiederzusehen.



But we missed Carmen who had to stay home as she became sick. Get well soon from here. We are sorry to miss you here and we really loved to see you again.
