Tag/Day 3 auf der/on QUEEN VICTORIA in Mykonos, Greece

Zum Glück bin ich heute Morgen noch früher draußen als sonst. So kann ich den superschönen Mond sehen.



Luckily, I'm outside even earlier than usual this morning. That way I can see the gorgeous moon.

The ship looks "sexy" this morning. That makes Walk a Mile fun for me.

Über Mykonos geht die Sonne auf.

Since we're tendering, you have a direct view of the town. I have a direct view of the white windmills that make Mykonos famous worldwide.



Da wir tendern, guckt man direkt auf die Stadt. Ich habe einen direkten Blick auf die weißen Windmühlen, die Mykonos weltweit bekannt machen.

Neben uns sucht sich die LE DUMONT D'URVILLE von Ponant ihr Plätzchen zum Ankern. Ein Schiff, das ich mir nicht leisten kann und will. Da fahre ich lieber ein paar Mal mit MSC.



Next to us, Ponant's LE DUMONT D'URVILLE is finding a spot to anchor. A ship I can't afford and don't want. I'd rather take a few cruises with MSC.

Last but not least, a very good friend arrives: MSC ARMONIA 2025. We were just here with her in April. That's why we didn't book an excursion today. The weather isn't good enough for the gay beaches, but I really wanted to try out a restaurant we visited back then. We didn't eat there, though.



Last not least trifft noch eine sehr gute Freundin ein: die MSC ARMONIA 2025. Wir waren mit ihr je erst im April hier. Deswegen haben wir heute auch mal keinen Ausflug gebucht. Für die Gay-Strände ist das Wetter nicht gut genug, aber ich wollte unbedingt noch ein Lokal ausprobieren, das wir damals besucht hatten. Aber damals haben wir dort nicht gegessen.

Ich gucke mir oben die Milchalternativen an. Ich habe den Eindruck, dass die Auswahl von Reise zu Reise immer größer wird.



I'm looking at the milk alternatives upstairs. I get the impression that the selection is getting bigger with each trip.

Breakfast is served in the club restaurant until the last entry at 9:00 hrs. We arrive at 8:59 hrs. We quickly give them an extra tip in euros so they can get an ouzo and get their heart rate back to normal. Since I already received my congee yesterday, there will always be slight variations from the previous day.



Bis zum letzten Einlass um 09:00 Uhr gibt es Frühstück im Clubrestaurant. Wir kommen um 08:59 Uhr an. Kurzerhand geben wir ein zusätzliches Trinkgeld in Euro, damit sie sich einen Ouzo holen und so wieder auf Normalpuls zurückkommen. Nach dem ich ja schon gestern mein Congee bekommen habe, gibt es von jetzt an, immer kleine Abweichungen vom Vortag.

Nach dem Frühstück beginnt erst mal unser Ritual: Wir gehen in den Chart Room. Ich bekomme, wie üblich, meine Sonderwünsche erfüllt. Nur mit dem Union-Kaffee können wir so 100%ig nichts anfangen. Wie sich allerdings später herausstellt: Der Mahlgrad stimmt nicht, und in Southampton kommen Techniker von Union an Bord, um die Einstellungen wieder in Ordnung zu bringen.



After breakfast, our ritual begins: we head to the chart room. As usual, my special requests are fulfilled. However, we can't quite get the Union coffee to work. As it turns out later, the grind isn't right, and Union technicians come aboard in Southampton to adjust the settings.

Ephraim is our cabin steward. He stands out because he always covers our open glasses. We're extremely pleased with his service. We also mention this to the housekeeping supervisor and the manager when we meet them. We're the first to complain if something isn't to our liking. Then, to be fair, you have to offer praise when something is good. And you can tell how proud he is that we did that. He's already been spoken to about it and praised by his superiors.



Ephraim ist unser Kabinensteward. Er fällt auf, weil er immer unsere offenen Gläser abdeckt. Mit seinen Leistungen sind wir hochzufrieden. Wir erzählen das auch der Housekeeping Supervisorin und dem Manager, als wir sie treffen. Wir beschweren uns als Erstes, wenn uns etwas nicht gefällt. Dann muss man fair sein und auch loben, wenn etwas gefällt. Und man merkt ihm an, wie stolz er ist, dass wir das gemacht haben. Er wurde bereits deswegen angesprochen und von seinen Vorgesetzten gelobt.





Da das Schiff schön leer ist und auch entgegen der Vorhersage einigermaßen warm und trocken ist, mache ich kurzerhand Aquafitness. Den Pool habe ich für mich alleine. Randy macht davon ein paar Bilder, die ich direkt an meine Trainerin und die anderen Teilnehmern schicke. So sehen sie, dass ich auch im Urlaub fleißig bin und wie schön blau der Himmel ist, während im Odenwald der Regen fällt.



Since the ship is pleasantly empty and, contrary to the forecast, reasonably warm and dry, I decide to do some aqua fitness. I have the pool all to myself. Randy takes some pictures, which I send directly to my instructor and the other participants. That way, they can see that I'm keeping busy even on vacation and how beautifully blue the sky is while it's raining in the Odenwald Highlands, where we live.

Since we'll be eating on land later, we'll just check what was available to eat at the Lido.

Wir setzen mit dem Tender über. Seit einigen Stunden brauchen wir keine Tendertickets mehr und können direkt zur Tenderplattform.



We're crossing by tender. For the past few hours, we no longer need tender tickets and can walk directly to the tender platform.

Since we're using a shore-based tender boat, we can also sit outside. This allows me to take beautiful pictures of QUEEN VICTORIA and MSC ARMONIA.



Da wir ein landseitiges Tenderboot nutzen, können wir auch draußen sitzen. So kann ich schöne Bilder von der QUEEN VICTORIA machen. Und von der MSC ARMONIA.

Den Mietwagen hatten wir wieder abbestellt, nach dem es zunächst nicht besonders gut aussah. Wir suchen uns kurzerhand einen neuen Mietwagen, da wir nach Ano Mera wollen, die von uns 30 EUR für die Fahrt haben wollen. So ist es zwar genauso teuer, aber wir sind unabhängiger.







Im April hat uns Antonis geführt. Ihn kannten wir bereits von der Reise mit der NORWEGIAN JADE 2022. Beim letzten Anlauf haben wir u.a. Ano Mera besucht. Da wir nicht im touristischen Mittelpunkt in Mykonos-Stadt sind, machte uns Antonis darauf aufmerksam, dass es hier immer noch die authentischsten Souvenirs gibt, die man auf Mykonos erwerben kann.



In April, Antonis guided us. We already knew him from our trip on NORWEGIAN JADE 2022. On that last trip, we visited Ano Mera, among other places. Since we weren't in the tourist center of Mykonos Town, Antonis pointed out that this is still where you can find the most authentic souvenirs on Mykonos.

Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay is known worldwide from numerous television shows, so when he gives praise, it must be something special. He's already been here and called the restaurant a top restaurant: Odos Aroxame. According to the owners, he didn't get anything special and also ordered from the regular menu. While souvlaki isn't on offer, I decide on the homemade moussaka instead. For a die-hard carnivore like me, the ratio of eggplant and potatoes to meat should be reversed, but that's a minor quibble. By this point, we're already full, partly because they had yellow taramasalata—that's so rare! Earlier, we only had half a salad to share. As tempting as the homemade desserts are, we unfortunately don't have room. When we mention Antonis, I get a shot – but not ouzo – something very fruity. It's so delicious and easy to drink, though, that I finish it and am no longer fit to drive.



Starkoch Gordon Ramsay kennt man weltweit aus zahlreichen Fernsehshows. Wenn er lobt, muss das schon etwas Besonderes sein. Er war schon hier und hat das Restaurant als Top-Restaurant bezeichnet: Odos Aroxame. Die Wirte sagen, dass er nichts besonderes bekommen hat und auch aus der regulären Speisekarte gewählt hat. Souvlaki gibt es hier leider nicht, also nehme ich mal hausgemachtes Moussaka. Für einen eingefleischten Fleichfresser wie mich, müsste das Verhältnis Auberginen und Kartoffeln zu Fleisch umgekehrt sein. Wir sind aber eh schon satt: es gab hier gelbes Taramas!!! Das gibt es so selten! Und wir hatten zuvor nur einen halben Salat zum Teilen. Für die hausgemachten Nachtische haben wir leider keinen Platz mehr. Als wir Antonis erwähnen, bekomme ich noch einen Schnaps – aber keinen Ouzo – etwas sehr Fruchtiges. Der ist allerdings so lecker und süffig, dass ich ihn austrinke und dadurch nicht mehr fahrtüchtig bin.

Wir besuchen die Bäckerei Koutsothanasis. Wir erleben jeden Tag zwei tolle Teams: im Chart-Room und im Clubrestaurant. Also bringen wir denen etwas mit. Auch etwas für unseren Kabinensteward Ephrahim. Außerdem noch für die Sicherheitsleute.



We're visiting the Koutsothanasis bakery. We see two fantastic teams every day: one in the charter room and one in the club restaurant. So we're bringing them something. We're also bringing something for our cabin steward, Ephrahim, and for the security staff.

On board, the only thing left to do is go to the club restaurant for dinner. I had pre-ordered a flounder, but it was so huge and thick. I couldn't finish it. I ordered some cream with my ice cream, but it tasted more like clotted cream. When I asked later, I was told that clotted cream is so expensive that it's never offered as whipped cream. No show, then, and off to bed.



An Bord geht es nur noch ins Clubrestaurant zum Abendessen. Ich hatte vorab mal einen Flunder bestellt. Aber der war ja so riesig und so dick. Das bekomme ich nicht auf. Ich bestelle etwas Sahne zum Eis, aber sie schmeckt eher nach Clotted Cream. Als ich später nachfragte, sagte man mir, dass die Clotted Cream so teuer ist, dass sie keinesfalls als Schlagsahne angeboten wird. Ohne Show geht es ins Bett.
