Seetag/Day at Sea 8 auf der/on QUEEN MARY 2

Ein vorletztes Frühstück. Anscheinend hat sich etwas beim Obstteller getan: es sieht doch ein klein wenige bunter aus. Ich hatte das Congee vorher abbestellt, weil ich noch das pochierte Ei mit dem Avocado probieren wollte. Und die Wurstplatte ist auch nicht schlecht, um mich wieder auf das Frühstück in Deutschland umzustellen. Noch einmal sich von Edsel, Joey und Ronald verwöhnen lassen.



A penultimate breakfast. Apparently, something has changed with the fruit plate: it looks a little more colorful. I had canceled the congee because I wanted to try the poached egg with avocado. The sausage plate isn't bad either, either, to get me back into the German breakfast routine. Let Edsel, Joey, and Ronald spoil you once again.

I met with HGM Neil, and I told him what I didn't like, separating what could be done better on board (just saying that something is "crap" doesn't help anyone, only if you also say how you could imagine it being better). I also mention the points that are the fault of Cunard management and that they only have to implement on board. If you list the negative things, you also have to list the positive things: this includes (with a few exceptions) the crew. We also talk about the changes in the past and perhaps in the future. A very nice conversation, especially because he also sorts out things that IT doesn't really have under control. It's a real shame: we could have held another Royal Rendezvous in the middle of the high seas, but QUEEN VICTORIA and QUEEN ANNE are too far away. That would have been the highlight of the trip. By the way, I already knew HGM Neil from QUEEN ELIZABETH 2019.



Ich treffe mich mit HGM Neil und ich sage ihm, was mir nicht gefallen hat, wobei ich trenne, was könnte man bordseitig besser machen (Nur sagen, dass etwas "Sch..." ist, hilft keinem weiter, sondern nur wenn man auch sagt, wie man sich es vorstellen könnte, dass es besser läuft) und ich erwähne nebenbei auch die Punkte, die an der Cunard-Geschäftsführung liegen und die sie nur an Bord umsetzen müssen. Wenn man die negativen Sachen Sachen aufzählt, muss man auch die positiven Sachen aufzählen: dazu gehört (bis auf EINZELNE Ausnahmen) die Crew. Wir unterhalten uns auch über die Veränderungen früher und vielleicht auch in der Zukunft. Ein sehr schönes Gespräch und vor allem, weil er auch Sachen in Ordnung bringt, die die IT nicht so richtig im Griff hat. Sehr schade: wir hätten ja mitten auf der hohen See wieder ein Royal Rendezvous veranstalten können, aber QUEEN VICTORIA und QUEEN ANNE sind doch zu weit weg. Das wäre der Höhepunkt der Reise geworden. Übrigens kannte ich HGM Neil schon von der QUEEN ELIZABETH 2019.



We always think of our cabin steward: always something sweet, always part in USD and part in a currency they can spend on land to treat themselves. They can send the USD home. GBP is problematic because he can't leave the ship when there is disembarkation and embarkation. Wir denken ja auch immer an unseren Kabinensteward: immer etwas Süßes, immer ein Teil in USD und ein Teil in einer Währung, die sie an Land ausgeben können, um sich etwas zu gönnen. Die USD können sie nach Hause schicken. Mit GBP wird es problematisch, weil er ja nicht von Bord kann, wenn Aus- und Einschiffung ist. Aber auf Teneriffa oder auf Madeira kann er sich ja mal einen Cappuccino oder einen Snack in der Seemannsmission sich holen, ohne dass er vorher seine USD in EUR umtauschen muss. Er hat eine schöne Schrift. Ich muss das nächste Mal meine handschiriftliche Korrespondenz mitbringen, die er für mich dann schreiben soll. In meinem Umfeld sagt man mir, dass sie mittlerweile nichts mehr lesen können, was ich denen schreibe: ich soll denen doch lieber eine SMS schicken.

Was ich mir immer gut merken kann: Die Gerichte, die ich sehr gerne esse und sowieso immer wieder bestelle und die Gerichte, die ich absolut nicht mag und nie im Leben bestellen würde. In der Diskussion mit Neil, ob sich die Gerichte nicht zu oft häufen: Es gab Leber Berliner Art erst vor kurzem zum Abendessen. Es wird garantiert, dann wieder in den Kühlschrank gepackt und dann ein paar Tage später wieder aufgewärmt... So zumindest mein Eindruck, wenn es so kurz hintereinander wieder kommt. Ein Reuben mag ich ganz gerne, aber im Bemühen mich zum Vegetarier zu erziehen, fand ich schon, dass das Verhältnis Fleisch zu Sauerkraut umgekehrt sein sollte: das Sauerkraut sollte eine Beilage zum Fleisch sein und nicht das Fleisch eine Beilage zum Sauerkraut. Bei der Schlagsahne ("Whipped Cream") ist wohl etwas schief gelaufen... Das passiert mir auch schon mal zu Hause und ich telefoniere, während ich die Sahne aufschlage und dann es auf einmal fast Butter ist... Aber das haben sie auch nur gemacht, damit es mir nicht so weh tut, wenn ich wieder von Bord muss... Alles nur, damit mir der Abschied einfacher fällt...



I always remember well the dishes that I like to eat and order again and again anyway, as well as the dishes that I don't like and would never order in my life. I quite like a Reuben, but in my efforts to become a vegetarian, I thought that the ratio of meat to sauerkraut should be the other way round: the sauerkraut should be a side dish to the meat and not the meat a side dish to the sauerkraut. Something must have gone wrong with the whipped cream... That happens to me at home, too, and I'm on the phone while I'm whipping the cream, and then suddenly, it's almost butter... But they only did that so that it wouldn't hurt so much when I had to leave the ship... It's all to make saying goodbye easier for me...

The guest choir's concert is taking place in the lobby. However, we want to attend another event, and unfortunately, we cannot attend.

Am Nachmittag fangen wir an zu packen. Aber ich denke gerne an die alternativen Abendessen im Kings Court oder im Lido. QUEEN MARY 2 2014 im Lotus. Wir kennen Rommel daher. Mein Vater war so begeistert, dass Rommel für meinen Vater die Reste eingepackt hat, damit er in der Kabine weiter essen konnte.

We celebrated Bruno's 50th birthday on QUEEN MARY 2 2016 at the Aztec. Unfortunately, that was the last time we had Attila, who we had experienced as a fantastic Maître D' on many voyages. Chef Roen baked Bruno an awesome cake.

The ultimate: Lys on QUEEN VICTORIA 2022. We had told fellow travelers about the alternatives. An English couple and a German couple booked it. When we came in, we asked if they could give us a big table for 6. It was such a lovely evening, and we had much fun. The fish was excellent.

Als wir reinkommen, fragen wir nach, ob sie uns einen großen Tisch für 6 geben können. Es war so ein schöner Abend und hat richtig Spaß gemacht. Der Fisch war spitzenmäßig.

Ich habe auf der QUEEN VICTORIA 2022 einen großen Fehler gemacht und da habe ich mich mit einem Essen im Coriander entschuldigt. Nur ich konnte keinen Nachtisch mehr mit Rosenwasser essen. Da durfte ich einfach ein Dessert aus The Verandah wählen.

Ein weiteres Highlight war Riviera auf der QUEEN ELIZABETH 2023. Einerseits, weil wir hier mit Nenad gemeinsam essen konnten und wir einen sehr schönen Abend hatten und vor allem, weil wir doch sehr für Gesprächsstoff unter der Crew gesorgt haben. Aber auch wegen des besten Saltimbocca, den ich gegessan habe.



Another highlight was Riviera on QUEEN ELIZABETH 2023. On the one hand, I was able to eat together with Nenad, and we had a very nice evening. Above all, the crew was provided with a lot of conversation material. But also because of the best saltimbocca I have ever eaten.

So I asked Ralph if we could stop in Cobh, Ireland, to buy veal cutlets. It's La Piazza again, but Saltimbocca is on the Riviera menu. They don't have the meat on board, but luckily, they have the recipe. They chose a different meat, and Bruno and Ralf got a portion. They understood why I like the Saltimbocca on board so much. A fantastic team: Ralph, Maribel, irman, Louie, Arwin, Fareed, Asnan, Blessings, Gilbert, Vivian, and Nilda. It's a nice ending.



Daher habe ich Ralph gefragt, ob wir nicht kurz in Cobh halten könnten, um gerade ein paar Kalbskotelettes zu kaufen. Es ist wieder La Piazza, aber Saltimbocca steht auf der Karte vom Riviera. Sie haben zwar das Fleisch nicht an Bord aber zum Glück das Rezept. Sie haben ein anderes Fleisch gewählt und Bruno und Ralf haben auch eine Portion abbekommen und haben verstanden, warum ich das Saltimbocca an Bord so mag. A phanstastic team: Ralph, Maribel, irman, Louie, Arwin, Fareed, Asnan, Blessings, Gilbert, Vivian, and Nilda. Ein schöner Abschluss.

Die letzte Show ist wieder eine 50:50-Show. 50% für den Comendian Phil Melbourne. Da muss ich aber zugeben: das war jetzt harmlos und keine Witze auf Kosten einzelner, sondern solche, bei denen alle mitlachen können. Und 50% für den Sänger John D. Smitherman. Da habe ich mich geärgert, dass ich nicht zu seiner 1. Show gegangen sind.



The last show was again a 50:50 show. 50% for comedian Phil Melbourne. But I have to admit: these were harmless jokes, not jokes at the expense of individuals, but jokes that everyone can laugh at. And 50% for the singer John D. Smitherman. I was annoyed that I didn't go to his first show.

One last round: when the Irish folk singers appear in the chart room, you never find a seat.



Noch eine letzte Runde: wenn die irischen Folk-Sänger im Chart-Room auftreten, hat man nie Platz gefunden.



Back to the Queens Room: there is also some nice music to dance to at the end. I say goodbye to Julito, who often served me here in the Queens Room or G32 and was always very friendly.



Noch einmal in den Queens Room: auch hier läuft nochmals am Schluss schöne Musik zum Mittanzen. Ich verabschiede mich von Julito, der mich oft hier im Queens Room oder G32 bedient hat und immer sehr nett zu mir war.





Leider haben wir verschlafen unsere Bilder heute noch abzuholen. Aber am nächsten Morgen konnten wir noch unsere Bilder holen, die wir bestellt haben.

Unser Gepäck wird abgeholt. Ich bin ja verwundert, dass sie nicht noch einen eigenen Weihnachtsbaum an Bord mitgenommen haben.
