Seetag/Day at Sea 7 auf der/on QUEEN MARY 2

Es sieht so aus, als ob die Reise bald zu Ende ist. An der Tür finden wir Gepäckanhänger und die Hinweise für die Ausschiffung. Egal, wie bisher die Reise verlaufen ist: traurig ist man schon. Und irgendwie wirkt die QUEEN MARY 2 immer entspannend und zeitlos. Im Sinne: Ärger (den man vorher hatte) und Raum-Zeit-Kontinuum sind irgendwie vom Bord gespült. Je länger man bleibt, desto eher ist einem alles gleichgültig. Waren da irgendwelche Pflichten, die da noch wären? Kann das nicht noch warten? Das kann ja wohl nicht sein, dass die Zeit an Bord so schnell zu Ende ist. Wir sind doch gestern erst an Bord gekommen - oder? Deswegen ist es auch wichtig: wenn etwas schief läuft, sofort melden. Dann können sie sofort Abhilfe schaffen und man möglichst lange die gute Zeit genießen und die schlechte Zeit liegt dann weit zurück.



It looks as if the trip is almost over. On the door, we find luggage tags and the instructions for disembarkation. No matter how the trip has gone so far, you are sad. And somehow, QUEEN MARY 2 always seems relaxing and timeless in the sense that anger (that you had before) and the space-time continuum have somehow been washed away from the ship. The longer you stay, the more you become indifferent to everything. Were there any duties that remain? Can't that wait? It can't be that the time on board is over so quickly. We only got on board yesterday - didn't we? That's why it's important: if something goes wrong, report it immediately. Then they can remedy the situation immediately, and you can enjoy the good times for as long as possible, and the bad times will be a long time behind you.

Dorothy from Cruise Brothers had treated us to a champagne breakfast in bed, but we preferred breakfast in the restaurant. So I arranged that we could order food from the champagne breakfast menu here. We skipped the champagne in the morning because we couldn't handle alcohol anyway. If I had eaten the lobster Benedict beforehand and known that Bruno and Ralf didn't want it, I would have ordered it three times during the trip. Edward and Arnold are our friendly waiters this morning.



Dorothy von Cruise Brothers hatte uns ja ein Champagner Frühstück im Bett spendiert. Aber wir frühstücken lieber im Restaurant. So habe ich ausgemacht, dass hier das Essen der Champagner-Frühstückskarte bestellen kann. Auf den Champagner morgens verzichten wir, da wir eh keinen Alkohol vertragen. Der Lobster Benedict... hätte ich ihn vorher schon gegessen und gewusst, dass Bruno und Ralf ihn nicht wollten: ich hätte ihn vermutlich dann auch drei Mal im Laufe der Reise bestellt. Edward und Arnold sind unsere netten Kellner heute Morgen.

Warum gibt es keine "4"? Fällt das eigentlich niemandem hier auf?

The party with senior officers takes place. But our move has still not been adequately recorded. The old cabin number again. I am interested in seeing what happens to QUEEN MARY 2. QUEEN ELIZABETH 2 also managed 39 years in the fleet. So I ask the hotel general manager, Neil, for an appointment for a short chat. This is also a good opportunity to mention that the crew is fantastic, but you do notice when the general management cuts certain things when the crew reaches its limits. Apart from that, we don't spend much time here: it takes place in the morning, and we should get changed for the event. So we have to change again before we move on.



Die Party mit leitenden Offizieren findet statt. Unser Umzug ist aber immer noch nicht richtig erfasst worden. Schon wieder die alte Kabinennummer. Mich interessiert es schon, wie es mit der QUEEN MARY 2 weitergehen soll. QUEEN ELIZABETH 2 hat es ja auch 39 Jahre in der Flotte geschafft. So frage ich beim Hotel General Manager Neil nach einem Termin für ein kurzes Gespräch. Das ist auch eine gute Gelegenheit zu erwähnen, dass die Crew fantastisch ist, aber man doch bemerkt, wenn die Crew an ihre Grenzen stößt, wenn der Vorstand bestimmte Sachen streicht. Ansonsten: viel Zeit verbringen wir hier nicht: es findet vormittags statt und wir sollten uns für den Anlass umziehen. Deswegen müssen wir uns nochmals umziehen, bevor es weitergeht.

Mittags essen wir ausnahmsweise im Sir Samuel's Smörrebröd. Heute Abend ist ja Masquerade. Da ich heute absolut tiefenentspannt bin, habe ich beschlossen, heute Abend mit Maske zu erscheinen. Mal gucken, ob sie mich im Sir Samuel's wiedererkennen.



We're having a special lunch at Sir Samuel's Smörrebröd. Tonight is Masquerade. Since I'm relaxed today, I've decided to wear a mask. Let's see if they recognize me at Sir Samuel's.

Shortly after lunch, I go to the workshop of the cast of Say It Again, Sorry? They explain how you can influence improvisational theatre in a certain direction so that it doesn't get out of hand. They are a very nice group. I exchange a few words with them later.



Kurz nach dem Mittagsimbiss gehe ich zum Workshop der Truppe Say It Again, Sorry? Sie klären auf, wie man Improvisationstheater doch in eine Richtung beeinflussen kann, so dass es nicht aus dem Ruder läuft. Ist eine sehr nette Truppe. Ich tausche später auch ein paar Worte mit ihnen aus.

Soll ich meine SM-Ledermaske anziehen oder die Batman-Maske? Allerdings war es keine gute Idee, wenn man den Film Batman gar nicht kennt. Viele rufen mir etwas zu (später erklärt man mir, dass die Sprüche aus dem Film Batman sind) und ich hatte keine Ahnung, was sie meinten. Wir haben allerdings so viel Spaß, dass wir uns darauf einlassen, uns fotografieren zu lassen und kaufen die Bilder auch entsprechend. Sehr schön ist auch, dass sich einige Mitreisende sich sehr viel Mühe gegeben haben. Sie werden später noch auf dem Ball vorgestellt.



Should I wear my SM leather mask or the Batman mask? However, it wasn't a good idea if you didn't know the film Batman at all. Many people shouted something at me (later, I was told that the sayings were from the film Batman), and I had no idea what they meant. But we had so much fun that we agreed to have our photos taken and bought the pictures. It was also very nice that some other travelers made a lot of effort. They will be introduced later at the ball.

Even though I missed the lobster, the food and service were delicious. I used to be able to put together my own surf and turf: the lobster and a slice of Beef Wellington.



Auch wenn ich den Hummer vermisse: Essen und Service waren sehr gut. Früher konnte ich selbst mein Surf und Turf zusammenbasteln: Den Hummer und eine Scheibe Beef Wellington.

Nach dem ich schon mittlerweile ermüdend fand, wie oft ich "Be our Guest" sehen musste, war ich froh, dass ich eine nagelneue Show sehen konnte, die derzeit nur auf der QUEEN ANNE und QUEEN MARY 2 läuft: Let's Dance. Die Show entsprach meinem Geschmack.



After I had already found it tiring how often I had to watch "Be Our Guest", I was happy to see a brand new show that is currently only running on QUEEN ANNE and QUEEN MARY 2: Let's Dance. The show was to my taste.

We go into the Queens Room to have a look. I met Entertainment Director Amanda again, whom I have known from various trips. So that no one had to worry about embarrassing themselves on the dance floor during the faster songs, the gentleman host and hostess took the interested dancers by the hand and then floated onto the dance floor with them. This way, other guests who were unsure also dared to take a few steps and enjoy themselves. I'll take a Virgin Mary, but I think the prices for a non-alcoholic cocktail are outrageous to stick with it.



Wir gehen doch mal in den Queens Room, um ein wenig zu gucken. Hier treffe ich auch Entertainment Director Amanda wieder, die ich verschiedenen Reisen her schon kenne. Damit niemand Angst haben musste, auf der Tanzfläche bei etwas schnelleren Liedern sich zu blamieren, haben der Gentleman Host bzw. die Hostess, die interessierten Tänzer an die Hand genommen und sind dann mit denen zusammen auf das Parkett geschwebt. So haben sich auch andere Gäste, die sich unsicher waren auch getraut, einfach ein paar Schritte zu machen und sich zu amüsieren. Ich nehme eine Virgin Mary, aber ich finde die Preise für einen alkoholfreien Cocktail nur unverschämt und es bleibt daher dabei.

Eine weitere Premiere: wir gehen in den G32-Nachtclub und hier spielt eine Superband. Zuerst gehe ich alleine auf die Tanzfläche. Zufällig sitzen aber auch Mickey und Colleen im Club. Wir hatten sie vor wenigen Tagen im Britannia Restaurant kennengelernt. Ich bin dann auch mit denen auf die Tanzfläche gegangen. Ich hatte ja noch Masken für Martin und GIl besorgt, die ja hätten mit uns fahren sollen. Als ich gesehen habe, dass Mickey keine Maske hat, schenke ich ihr eine. Also heute war ein richtiger toller Tag, der zu Ende gegangen ist. Manchmal muss man einfach über seinen Schatten springen. Und man ist nie zu alt dafür. OK: das eine oder andere Crew-Mitglied werde ich bestimmt wieder treffen, aber die bekommen ja genügend Schweigegeld von mir. Und die Wahrscheinlichkeit, dass ich anderen Mitfahrer wiederbegegne, die sich an meine Aktivitäten an Bord erinnern dürfte recht gering sein. Man ist niemals zu alt, um noch neue Erfahrungen zu sammeln und sich königlich zu vergnügen. Das schaffen nur wenige Schiffe. Und eines der Schiffe ist die QUEEN MARY 2.



Another first: we go to the G32 nightclub, and a great band is playing. First, I go to the dance floor alone. But Mickey and Colleen are also sitting in the club. We met them a few days ago at the Britannia Restaurant. I went to the dance floor with them. I bought masks for Martin and Gil, who should come with us. When I saw that Mickey didn't have a mask, I gave her one. So, today was a great day that has come to an end. Sometimes, you have to get over your fears. And you're never too old for that. OK: I'm sure I'll meet one or two crew members again, but they get enough hush money from me. And the probability that I'll meet other passengers who remember my activities on board is slim. You're never too old to gain new experiences and have a royal time. Only a few ships manage that. One of those ships is QUEEN MARY 2.
