Seetag/Day at Sea 5 auf der/on QUEEN MARY 2

Stehe ich auf oder nicht? Ich kenne das Schiff ja eigentlich in- und auswendig und dennoch entdecke ich immer irgendwas Neues oder freue mich es wiederzusehen. Also stehe ich auf und mache meine nächtliche Runde. Unterwegs komme ich auch meiner Kabine von der Reise auf der QUEEN MARY 2 2014 vorbei: 11111. Für die Kabine wäre ich sofort umgezogen. Ob ich mal klopfen soll und nachfragen soll, was sie in meiner Kabine machen? Wegen eines Knieproblems fahre ich im Moment nach oben, und laufe sie langsam runter. Ich hätte doch meine Nordic Walking-Sticks mitbringen sollen. Deswegen sind es nicht soviele Schritte heute Morgen.



Should I get up or not? I know the ship inside and out, yet I always discover something new or am happy to see it again. So I get up and do my nightly walk. On the way, I pass my cabin on my QUEEN MARY 2 2014 trip: 11111. I would have moved to that cabin straight away. Should I knock and ask what they are doing in my cabin? Because of a knee problem, I am moving by elevator upstairs and strolling down. I should have brought my Nordic walking sticks. That's why I haven't taken so many steps this morning.

I go outside: it's not that cold. I forgot my winter jacket, scarf, and hat in the stateroom, but the hoodie is fine.



Es geht nach draußen: es ist gar nicht mal so kalt. Meine Winterjacke, Schal und Mütze habe ich in der Kabine vergessen, aber mit dem Hoodie komme ich gut klar.

Hier im Pavillon Pool könnte ich ja ein wenig Aqua-Fitness machen, aber er ist ja immer Recht voll, weil es eben die einzige Möglichkeit ist, überdacht ins Pool zu gehen. Da niemand da ist, versuche ich mich an einigen Selfies auf der kleinen Bühne. Ich eigne mich nicht zum Instergrammer.



I could do a little aqua fitness here in the pavilion pool, but it's always packed because it's the only way to get into the pool under cover. Since there's no one there, I take a few selfies on the small stage. I'm not the kind of person who likes Instagram.





First, I look at the "gallery" on staircase D: food and drink. Of course, the picture of Marilyn Monroe catches my eye: in her role as Lorelei Lee with Henry Spofford III in "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes". Charlie Chaplin as a gold digger in the film "The Gold Rush" who eats his shoe.



Zunächst gucke ich mir die "Galerie" im Treppenhaus D an: Essen und Trinken. Natürlich fällt das Bild von Marilyn Monroe auf: in ihrer Rolle als Lorelei Lee mit Henry Spofford III. in "Blondinen bevorzugt". Charlie Chaplin als Goldgräber im Film "Goldrausch", der seinen Schuh verspeist.

Das ist der Britannia Club. Wir hatten ihn mal auf der QUEEN ELIZABETH 2012 (2) kennengelernt. Und jetzt haben wir auf der QUEEN VICTORIA im Herbst wieder Glück: keine Ahnung, wie Dorothy von Cruise Brothers es geschafft hat: aber ein Upgrade so lange vorher, hatte ich bislang noch nie. Da meine Buchungsstrategie bekannt ist, und man wohl nicht will, dass ich kurzfristig etwas anderes mir wähle, wurde mir bereits eine Britannia Club-Kabine zugeteilt. Sie dürfen hier auf blauen Polstern sitzen. Bei der schnellen Durchsicht, erkenne ich nur, dass sich das Grundangebot beim Frühstück nicht großartig unterscheidet.



This is the Britannia Club. We first learned about it on QUEEN ELIZABETH 2012 (2). And now we're lucky again on QUEEN VICTORIA in the autumn: I have no idea how Dorothy from Cruise Brothers managed it, but I've never had an upgrade so long in advance. I've already been assigned a Britannia Club cabin since my booking strategy is known, and they don't want me to choose something else on short notice. You can sit on blue cushions here. After a quick look, I only noticed that the basic breakfast offering isn't much different.

Of course, plenty of paintings of the current and historical Cunard fleet exist.



Natürlich gibt es jede Menge Gemälde von der aktuellen und historischen Cunard-Flotte.

Ich wollte mich ja persönlich bei Captain Aseem für die Unterschrift im Douglas Ward bedanken: aber es ist alles zu.

Mich würde ja interessieren, wie hier die Suiten aussehen. Ob man einfach klopfen darf und nachfragen kann, wann hier mal Haus der offenen Tür wäre?

The library is a lovely oasis of calm. There is also a small selection of foreign language books. The majority of these are in German. Also very lovely: to mark the 20th anniversary of the QUEEN MARY 2's arrival in Hamburg, there is a kind of guest book here.



Eine sehr schöne Oase der Ruhe ist die Bibliothek. Man findet auch eine kleine Auswahl an fremdsprachigen Büchern. Davon stellt Deutsch den größten Anteil. Auch sehr schön: anlässlich des 20-jährigen Anlaufs der QUEEN MARY 2 in Hamburg, gibt es hier eine Art Gästebuch.

He brings together many facts here that underline his opinion that Princess Diana was not the victim of a targeted assassination attempt. There is a lot of fake news and speculation on this subject. Therefore, I found it very interesting to listen to everything in two lectures and get an overview from one source.



Derek Tedder war zum Zeitpunkt des Todes von Prinzessin Diana Journalist und hatte in diesem Zusammenhang sehr viel recherchiert. Er beträgt hier viele Fakten zusammen, mit denen er seine Meinung unterstreicht, dass Prinzessin Diana kein Opfer eines gezielten Attentats ist. Es gibt ja in diesem Zusammenhang viele Fakenews und Vermutungen. Daher fand ich es sehr interessant, mal alles mir in zwei Vorträgen anzuhören und eine Gesamtübersicht aus einer Hand zu verschaffen.



Someone once asked me at lunchtime if I was having a special meal again. That gave me an idea: Avram knows how to make raznjicij (Croatian pork skewer - but with meat from the neck). No, that's his grandmother's domain. And then I asked if his grandmother was on board. No, she's at home and has already started cooking everything that Avram likes to eat when he gets home. I then asked if I could accompany him to his grandmother's. No. Somehow, Cunard must have taken a management course on how to say no. But I still get my meat skewers, even with two types of meat. I'm already starting to think about what else I could want... but I always limit myself to things that we would get anyway in our booking class (e.g., nothing that would only be available at the Queen Grill, for example) and that don't require ingredients that would require the ship to stop at the nearest supermarket.



Irgendeiner hatte mich mal mittags gefragt, ob ich wieder Sonderessen hätte. Das brachte mich auf die Idee: Avram weiß bestimmt, wie man Raznjicij macht. Nein, das sei die Domäne seiner Großmutter. Und daraufhin habe ich nachgefragt, ob seine Großmutter an Bord ist. Nein, sie ist zu Hause und hätte schon angefangen, alles zu kochen, was Avram gerne ißt, wenn er nach Hause kommt. Ich habe, dann gefragt, ob ich mit zu seiner Großmutter kommen dürfte: Nein. Irgendwie haben sie Cunard wohl einen Management-Kurs absolviert, wie man Nein sagt. Dennoch bekomme ich meine Fleischspieße. Sogar aus zwei Sorten Fleisch. Ich fange schon an mir zu überlegen, was ich mir sonst noch wünschen könnte... aber ich beschränke mich immer auf Sachen, die wir in unserer Buchungsklasse sowieso bekommen würden (z.B. nichts, was es beispielsweise nur im Queen Grill geben würde) und für man keine Zutaten braucht, für die das Schiff extra am nächsten Supermarkt halten müsste.

Oscar Wildes "Ernstsein ist alles - oder Bunburry". An Bord ist die Truppe von "Say it again, Sorry". Es ist Improvisationstheater. Und nach und nach werden einzelne Gäste aus dem Publikum auf die Bühne geholt und in das Stück eingebunden. Es spielte gar keine Rolle, ob man alles verstanden hatte, und trotzdem hat man Tränen gelacht.



Oscar Wilde's "The Importance of Being Earnest". On board is the cast from "Say It Again, Sorry". It is improvisational theatre. Little by little, individual guests from the audience are brought onto the stage and included in the play. It didn't matter whether you understood everything and still laughed until you cried.

We go to the reception for the CWC members. Since it is not a gala evening, we dress as if we were going to a gala evening. After all, a good impression is what counts. We are provided with drinks, but unfortunately, the sandwiches are not served. While some are served several times, we have to ask explicitly before our corner is offered some. Unfortunately, only the leftovers (there is no full selection anymore) are served on the silver platter.



Es geht zum Empfang für die CWC Mitglieder. Da er nicht an einem Galaabend ist, ziehen wir uns so um, als ob wir einen Galaabend hätten. Schließlich ist ein guter Eindruck, der zählt. Mit Getränken wird man versorgt, aber leider funktioniert die Versorgung mit Schnittchen nicht. Während einige mehrfach bedient werden, müssen wir explizit nachfragen, bevor unsere Ecke auch welche angeboten bekommt. Und leider nur noch die Reste (keine vollständige Auswahl mehr) auf dem Silbertablett.

Es gibt doch mal Hummer zum Abendessen. Nach dem es nur Sachen gab, die ich nun gar nicht mag: Leber Berliner Art und Puter. Der Hummer war sehr gut, er war doch anders zubereitet, als der Hummer, den es bisher im Britannia Restaurant gab. Und genauso gut heute Abend: der Service heute Abend: Ken und Zing. Auch ohne die Show der Weather Girls geht es uns gut...



There's lobster for dinner, after all. After all, there were only things that I didn't like at all: liver Berlin style and turkey. The lobster was delicious; it was prepared differently than the lobster we've had in the Britannia Restaurant. And just as good tonight: the service tonight: Ken and Zing. Even without the Weather Girls show, we're fine...

These new leather signs are exquisite. Someone had an excellent idea. There is food in our cabin. We didn't order anything. I saved it anyway and had it as a midnight snack—as long as it wasn't liver Berliner style or turkey. The next morning's investigation revealed that someone must have made a mistake, either the crew or the guest. However, the order was assigned to our cabin.



Diese neuen Schilder aus Leder sind sehr elegant. Da hatte jemand eine sehr gute Idee. In unserer Kabine steht Essen. Wir haben nichts bestellt. Ich hebe es trotzdem auf und nehme es als Mitternachtssnack zu mir: solange es keine Leber Berliner Art oder Puter ist. Die Nachforschungen am nächsten Morgen: da ist wohl jemandem ein Irrtum unterlaufen: entweder bei der Crew oder beim Gast. Die Bestellung wurde jedoch unserer Kabine zugeordnet.
