Tag/Day 9 auf der/on QUEEN MARY 2 in Southampton, England - Frankfurt, Germany

Als wir auf der Höhe von Isle of Wright bzw. Portsmouth ankommen, sehe ich die IONA schon im "Kreisverkehr". Später habe ich Glück: QUEEN MARY 2 dreht zunächst im Hafenbecken, bevor sie am Queen Elizabeth II-Terminal anlegt. Warum hat eigentlich IONA Vorrang vor uns am Ocean Terminal und später: um den Verkehr zu entzerren, wäre es ja wohl besser gewesen, dass einer am Mayflower Terminal anlegt, damit nicht am Gate 4 ein Stau entsteht.



I can see the IONA in the "roundabout" when we arrive at the Isle of Wright and Portsmouth. Later, I'm lucky: QUEEN MARY 2 turns around in the harbor basin before docking at the Queen Elizabeth II Terminal. Why does IONA have priority over us at the Ocean Terminal? Later, to ease the traffic, it would have been better for one of them to dock at the Mayflower Terminal to avoid a traffic jam at Gate 4.

Noch eine riesige Überraschung beim letzten Frühstück: Mercy, die wir von QUEEN MARY 2 2017, kennen. Schade, dass wir sie erst am letzten Tag entdeckt haben.



Another huge surprise at the last breakfast was Mercy, whom we know from QUEEN MARY 2 2017. It's a shame we only discovered her on the last day.

We have to leave the ship. But I have wonderful memories of the last trip with my father on the QUEEN MARY 2 2014. And I like to come back here again and again to remember how I could still amaze him here. It was an unforgettable voyage for him and for me.




Wir müssen von Bord. Aber ich lasse schöne Erinnerungen an die letzte Reise mit meinem Vater auf der QUEEN MARY 2 2014 zurück. Und ich komme gerne immer wieder hierher, um mich daran zu erinnern, wie ich ihn hier immer noch zum Staunen bringen konnte. Eine unvergessliche Reise für ihn und für mich.

Ihm lag die QUEEN MARY 2 so am Herzen, dass er sich seine allerletzte Reise auch mit der QUEEN MARY 2 gewünscht hatte. Das Modell, das er hier an Bord gekauft hat, legen wir in seinen Sarg rein, um ihn seinen Wunsch zu erfüllen. So kann er auf dieser Reise nochmals den White-Star-Service genießen, den er sich von meiner Mutter seit unserer Reise zu Hause auch gewünscht hat. Daher für mich wird QUEEN MARY 2 immer ein besonderes Schiff bleiben.



QUEEN MARY 2 was so dear to his heart that he wished his last voyage would be on it. To fulfill his wish, we will put the model he bought here on board in his coffin. This way, he can again enjoy the White Star service on this voyage, which he has also wanted from my mother since our trip back home. For this reason, QUEEN MARY 2 will always be a special ship for me.

Our paths separate. Ralf's plane doesn't leave until late afternoon, so he takes the opportunity to drive to the airport via Stonehenge. We have been using Clifford Cars for many years when we travel in Southampton, England, or to/from Heathrow Airport. It worked out well again. At Heathrow Airport, they are also becoming increasingly impertinent: they now charge money for dropping us off in front of the terminal.



Unsere Wege trennen sich. Ralfs Maschine geht erst am späten Nachmittag, so nutzt er die Chance über Stonehenge zum Flughafen zu fahren. Seit vielen Jahren nutzen wir Clifford Cars, wenn wir in Southampton oder von/nach Heathrow unterwegs sind. Es hat wieder gut geklappt. Am Flughafen Heathrow werden sie auch immer unverschämter: für das Absetzen vor dem Terminal wird jetzt Geld verlangt.

Zum Glück hat die Lufthansa Lounge wegen Umbau geschlossen, so dürfen wir die Lounge von Singapore Airlines nutzen, die allerdings im Satteliten Terminal ist und etwas Fußweg erfodert. Aber es wäre eigentlich nett, wenn sie einfach mit der Lounge umziehen würden, statt Lufthansa die Lounge zu überlassen.



Luckily, the Lufthansa lounge is closed for renovations, so we can use the Singapore Airlines lounge in the satellite terminal, which requires a bit of a walk. But it would be nice if they moved the lounge instead of giving it to Lufthansa.

We had booked Business Flex. Firstly because of the luggage. And Business Flex allows you to rebook an earlier flight if necessary. It didn't work with the app. So I called. But they wanted the difference in fare. Things went very quickly on the ground: we got boarding passes for the earlier flight and could fly straight away. But there are some strange people: one HON member wants to sit in the front row and not next to his family in the back row in Business Class. That is beneath him. He would rather walk back and forth and block the aisle. Otherwise, we have a lovely crew here.



Wir hatten Business Flex gebucht. Zunächst wegen der Koffer. Und weil Business Flex erlaubt, ggfls. auf einem früheren Flug umzubuchen. Mit der App ging es nicht. Also habe ich angerufen. Aber die wollten die Tarifdifferenz. Am Boden ging es ganz schnell: wir haben Bordkarten für den früheren Flug bekommen und konnten direkt mitfliegen. Es gibt aber schon komische Leute: Ein HON-Mitglied möchte unbedingt in der vordersten Reise sitzen und nicht neben seiner Familie in einer hinteren Reihe der Business Class. Das ist unter seiner Würde. Dann lieber hin- und herspazieren und den Gang blockieren. Ansonsten haben wir hier eine sehr nette Crew erwischt.

Der Anflug auf Frankfurt bedeutet meistens, dass wir schon wieder mit der Arbeit konfrontiert werden, weil wir schon immer unsere Büros sehen können, die auf uns warten. Gepäckausgabe in Frankfurt bedeutet immer: Priority Gepäck kommt am Schluss. Warum sollte es anders sein. Ich hatte dann noch einen kleinen Unfall an der Rolltreppe. Leider hat es nicht für eine Krankschreibung gereicht. Ich war so geschockt... villeicht könnte mich ja mein Psychiater krankschreiben...



The approach to Frankfurt, Frankfurt, usually means that we are confronted with work again because we can always see our offices waiting for us. Baggage claims in Frankfurt always mean that priority baggage comes last. Why should it be any different? I then had a minor accident on the escalator. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough for a sick note. I was so shocked... maybe my psychiatrist could give me a sick note.

I am happy about the scales at home: I have not gained weight, but unfortunately, I have not lost weight either.



Zu Hause freue mich über die Waage: ich habe nicht zugenommen, aber leider auch nicht abgenommen.

The blog is almost over here. Next time, I will report on a small comparison between Costa and MSC: COSTA DELIZIOSA and MSC ARMONIA in April 2025. Cunard will continue its journey from Istanbul on QUEEN VICTORIA in October 2025.



Der Blog ist hier fast zu Ende. Das nächste Mal melde ich mich von einem kleinen Vergleich zwischen Costa und MSC von der COSTA DELIZIOSA und MSC ARMONIA im April 2025. Bei Cunard geht es dann im Oktober 2025 weiter ab Istanbul auf der QUEEN VICTORIA.

Ein allerletztes Bild am Schluss: man hat mir (fast) alle Wünsche erfüllt. So werden sie mich nur im Rollstuhl wieder los. Freiwillig wollte ich nicht von Bord gehen. Ende gut - alles gut. Ich werde jetzt am Blog schreiben und dann an die Geschäftsführung von Cunard: klasse Crew, aber das Produkt haben sie zu sehr schleifen lassen. Da müssten sie sich mal wieder aufrappeln, es erstklassig zu machen.



One final image at the end: (almost) all my wishes were granted. This way, they will only get rid of me in a wheelchair. I did not want to leave the ship voluntarily. All's well that ends well. I will now write on the blog and then to the management of Cunard: great crew, but they have let the product slide too much. They really need to pull themselves together and make it first-class again.
