Zunächst muss ich Schokolade in The Belgian Chocolate House kaufen.

The next morning I was heading from Brussels South Station, Belgium. First I need to buy some chocolate with The Belgian Chocolate House. Few small bites from Neuhaus for our friends. Luckily I did need to go by Eurostar. The queues in front of their terminal were endless.

I was going by Thalys. But their information you got on potential delays contradicted each other too. I had a connection in Cologne, Germany. On two separate tickets. But the train manager confirmed the delay so DB German Railways should accept the withdrawal of the fixed binding train as DB German Railways did not sell any through-tickets. Complimentary food was only available in the Premium 1st class yet. In the Standard 1st class they had no more free food. So you had to get something yourself from the bar coach. It was so bad... The Sylvain Caramel Cookies by Generous made curious: an unusual package! The complimentary WiFi on the train worked well.

Actually I should on the way to Eemshaven, The Netherlands... Actually, I had an appointment for dinner.

But someone on NORWEGIAN BLISS who still owed me Cesar's Salad did everything me not getting my Cesar's Salad and would continue to book NCL... Since my voyage on NORWEGIAN SPIRIT 2007, I was waiting that the former Assistant Maître D' and today's Fleetwide Restaurant Manager Luiza prepare Cesar's Salad she promised... And she took NORWEGIAN BLISS to the Swedish coast just to make sure that I will continue to book NCL and would not give up the hope to get the salad from her one day.

 border=0

 border=0

Unfortunately she took that way also another nice crew-member with her to Sweden whom I really loved to meet again like Elena who had fond memories from many cruises... Like then the first time on NORWEGIAN JADE 2011 (1). People like Luiza and Elena made sure that we were still going with NCL to have a chance to meet them again although we did not like to so much anymore the product NCL. As there was no chance to have them back in Eemshaven, I just changed my planning.

In Cologne, Germany I found out that I had plenty of time. Every train was late. I went to the DB German Railways Lounge, and here in the 1st class area, they were still serving at your seat. In Frankfurt, Germany they did not want to help anymore recently....

 border=0

 border=0

The App of DB German Railways showed some nonsense: Alert for my train from Bremerhaven to Mönchengladbach, Germany. Originally I wanted to go from Mönchengladbach to Bremerhaven and not vice versa.

I canceled that ticket many weeks ago.

 border=0

 border=0

Nevertheless the itinerary still showed me that should have enough time to transfer in Bremen, Germany.

In Cologne Central Station, Germany my train was not displayed. They had a particular construction schedule which even the App of DB German Railways did not know. The train was still shown for 10:10 hrs. But with a very huge delay... Due to the construction sites, the departure was set on 10:27 hrs. But without informing the passengers. And on top of a delay. The scheduled connections in Bremen could not be reached. But the App of DB German Railways did not allow to check for alternative connections - just did not work. I was just passing Hagen, Germany.

 border=0

By RegionalExpress which was luckily delayed too I headed for Bremerhaven-Lehe, Germany.

I had luck. The commuter train which was the original connection to Bremerhaven had only 2nd class.

 border=0

Klasse gehabt.

Viel Platz. Bloß keine Steckdose.

 border=0

A lot of space. But no power outlets.

In Bremerhaven-Lehe I need to walk a short distance by feet to find the bus which took me to Sixt. Here I booked again car through the German Automobilist Club ADAC. A little ruthless: it was a Diesel, and they tried to charge me a surcharge if you insisted on having one Diesel. I declined it since I did not insist on having one. But I could keep it.

 border=0

So I headed for Cuxhaven, Germany and met Bruno's parents who were happy to have a piece of meat after few days of fish diet at the coast. So we ate short-notice in Kuh'linaria Steakhouse. A very nice friendly service. I had problems with the Australian meat (You could choose between Brazilian, Argentinian, New Zealand, and Australian meat). No discussion. I did not like it: which part of the meat should they place on the grill? As Bruno's mother such a wonderful Schnitzel (country fried steak) I asked for the kid's Schnitzel. That was not charged to me either, so I left a generous tip.

The next morning another lousy surprise: snow in Cuxhaven, Germany, and even the German Breakfast TV showed a picture of Cuxhaven. From the section of the dike where my hotel was located it was the perfect place to do ship spotting, but unfortunately, the manager of the hotel did not fit to the picture I had of hospitality.

 border=0

The next bad surprise: for the third part of my voyage I sent again in advance baggage by Hermes via DB German Railways. It should arrive the Wednesday before Good Friday (Public Holiday in Germany - same as Easter Monday). Unfortunately, they could not make it delivered on Holy Thursday because they could not find my bag. So there was nothing they could co. If I wanted to have my bag returned, I should give the hotel instructions to refuse the acceptance. If I want to have, it diverted I just simply should place a new order on my expenses, and they would take care of it on Tuesday after Easter. After all, I would get approx. 20.00 USD/day as compensation to buy me new clothes. They were so case-hardened: They were not interested if they could ruin the vacation of someone. They were not in charge on the Hermes' side but DB Germany Railways. And DB German Railways: in charge should be Hermes.

Lunchtime in Nottuln in Münsterland-Area, Germany: Stevertal Inn... who were smoking themselves ham in the restaurant... So you could make some exiting... and very classical: starter soup in a tureen served right at the table... I assumed that about eight persons could get full. And they did not want to give me the recipe for the soup. I did not want anything from the lunch menu and would prefer to have a plate of homemade cold cut specialties... Everyone was excited...

 border=0

After NORWEGIAN GETAWAY 2017 we went also to Hagen, Germany. Bruno's father had here more or less his education and was interested to know how the city of Hagen has developed. Luckily we knew Hans-Hermann and Carmen from Hagen who took the time with some coffee and cake to explain a lot to Bruno's father.

Somehow dealing with other cruisers was always a great pleasure...

 border=0

 border=0

Most of them were extremely nice and open... like Hans-Hermann and Carmen...

After a first short tour by car in Hagen we met again for dinner at Jägerruh Restaurant (The rest of a hunter), because I loved to have a Rasnicij and Yugoslav and Balkans-Restaurant were quite common in Germany of the 70s and "normal" in the cityscape until they were replaced by and by other Ethnic minorities..

Mein letztes sauberes T-Shirt.

 border=0

My last clean t-shirt. Good Friday: no chance to make any purchases but at the Cologne/Bonn Airport if I really need to. We had no Cruise Critic Meeting on board of QUEEN VICTORIA. So I did not wear it. Carmen offered me to laundry and to dry (She did not mention ironing explicitly...). I think someone in San Bernardino-Valley would become very nervous that I would cheat on with my laundry... But luckily I would meet next day Bruno, and he could get me fresh clothes from home... and that was already arranged with the hotel in Cologne that I could stay as long as I need to change my clothes...

I was playing Easter Egg...

 border=0

Ich spiele mal Osterei...

während wir auf Hans-Hermann und Carmen warten.

 border=0

while we were waiting for Hans-Hermann and Carmen.

We continued with the 2nd part of the tour which took us to the neighborhood of Haspe in the city of Hagen, Germany. Passing the former manufactury of the rusk "Brandt" whom everyone in Germany remembered. Unfortunately, he was not anymore in Hagen. In the past youth years, Bruno's Father was active in this area.

 border=0

 border=0

So we said good-bye to Hans-Hermann and Carmen at the city limits of Hagen, and we thanked them cordially for the great treat.

I took Bruno's parents home. On the way, we were stopping one more time in the Eifel Highlands in Ripsdorf in the Breuer Restaurant. I could not eat so much deep-fried fish. So I had to say goodbye to Bruno's parents until we see again on QUEEN MARY 2 in the summer with Sigi still and to celebrate Bruno's 50th birthday on board.

 border=0

My bag I got the next day in Hagen. It was easier for us to go again to Hagen to collect the bag but to count on Hermes... then we would be lost again...

So I could change my clothes right on time because my sister had her 50th birthday... To celebrate this event, I wore my new "curtain" as Bruno named my new shirt. The blog continues on QUEEN MARY 2 later... And meanwhile, I will come back from GRAND PRINCESS... Until then my laundry should be ready in the San Bernardino-Valley: washed, dried and ironed hopefully...

 border=0
