Seetag/Day at Sea 2 auf der/on QUEEN VICTORIA

Der Morgen beginnt im Chart Room. Die Kasse läuft noch nicht. Ich bekomme trotzdem einen Cappucino. Der Umsatz wird einfach manuell erfasst. Im Laufe des Tages lerne ich noch die tollen Eistee-Sorten kennen. Und tagsüber gibt es in der Tat die Kleinigkeiten zu essen, die in der Karte genannt sind.



The morning started in the Chart Room. The register did not work. I still could get a Cappucino. They just recorded the revenue manually. During the day I made an acquaintance with the great iced tea variations. And during the day they had indeed the food they mentioned on the menu.

A lovely day began.

Could a birthday weather looked better?

We asked for freshly juiced juice like we had on QUEEN MARY 2. They sent us to the bar in the Wintergarden, but it was closed. They had the healthy corner like we knew from our voyages on QUEEN MARY 2 2014, QUEEN MARY 2 2015 and QUEEN MARY 2 2017. But they just did not have the juice. Only a smoothie which was too sweet. Apart from that the offer in the self-service restaurant made a good impression. Bruno checked the ingredients of the natural yogurt. They should have congee in the Lido Café, but I could not find it.



Wir haben nach frisch-gepresstem Saft wie auf der QUEEN MARY 2 gefragt. Man schickt uns zur Bar im Wintergarten, aber die hat geschlossen. Die "gesunde" Ecke wie uaf den Reisen auf der QUEEN MARY 2 2014, QUEEN MARY 2 2015 und QUEEN MARY 2 2017 gibt es auch. Nur den Saft gibt es nicht. Nur einen Smoothie, der zu süß ist. Sonst macht das Angebot im SB-Restaurant einen guten Eindruck. Bruno prüft die Inhaltsstoffe des Naturjoghurts. Es soll Congee im Lido Café geben, aber ich habe es nicht gefunden.

Sogar mein Blutdruckmessgerät gratuliert mir zum Geburtstag.

A greeting for my birthday. That was all what Cunard delivered for my birthday.

If you have special requests with Cunard, you need to address to the head waiter who was in charge for your dinner. So I ordered some long noodles and a hard-boiled egg. My mother would be entirely satisfied if she saw the pictures: For all the good you need in your new year it was taken care. The tables aside of ours were a little jealous because it smelled so good. Ivan, Dejan, and Joaquim ensured that I had the perfect start to my birthday.



Wenn man bei Cunard Sonderwünsche hat, muss man sich an den Oberkellner, der für das Abendessen zuständig ist. So bestelle ich mir lange Nudeln und ein hart-gekochtes Ei. Meine Mutter wird zufrieden sein, wenn sie die Bilder sieht: Für alles Gute im kommenden Jahr ist gesorgt. Die Nachbartische sind ein wenig neidisch, weil es so toll duftet. Ivan, Dejan und Joaquim sorgen für einen perfekten Start meines Geburtstages.

Wir bekommen alles doppelt. Aber irrtümlich haben wir auch die Ausschiffungsinformationen für 4025 auf der Steuerbordseite bekommen.



We got everything double. By mistake we also received the debarkation information for 4025 on the portside.

The problem: no separated debarkation tags but the embarkation tags were valid. How many people were disposing of them after they got their bags in the cabin? So we need to find an exchange partner on deck 8 to get one hour earlier off the ship. They did not want to give me a tag for Grill- or Diamond-guests... After this year four more sailings to become Diamond...



Das Problem: es gibt keine separaten Ausschiffungsanhänger, sondern die Einschiffungsanhänger gelten. Wieviele werfen sie gleich weg, sobald das Gepäck auf der Kabine ist? Also müssten wir einen Tauschpartner auf Deck 8 finden, um eine Stunde früher von Bord zu kommen. Mir die Anhänger für Grill- oder Diamant-Gäste zu geben, wollte man doch nicht... Noch vier Reisen nach diesem Jahr, um Diamant zu werden...

Wir entschließen uns zur Selbstausschiffung und lassen uns hierfür an der Rezeption registrieren. Im Gegensatz zur COSTA FAVOLOSA 2017 passiert mit der Information etwas und wir werden sofort in einer Liste eingetragen.



We decided to participate at self-debarkation and let us registered at the front desk. Compared to COSTA FAVOLOSA 2017 somthing happened with the information and we were immediately put on a list.

It was for us also possible to book a transfer to London's airports, Victoria Coach Station, Hotels, St Pancras Train Station, various hotels and Southampton airport.



Wir könnten auch einen Transfer zu den Flughäfen, zum Victoria Busbahnhof, St Pancras Bahnhof, zu verschienenen Hotels Londons und zum Flughafen in Southampton buchen.

Ich frage auch nach, was die Transfers zuvor in Hamburg gekostet haben: Hamburg Hbf 15,00 USD/Person (2018) und zum Flughafen Hamburg wären es 40,00 USD/Person (2018) ab Steinwerder gewesen.



I was also asking how the transfers were before in Hamburg: for Hamburg Central Station it was 15.00 USD/person (2018) and for Hamburg Airport it was 40.00 USD/person (2018) from Steinwerder.

You changed the time in the night so not like on the transatlantic when you did it 12:00 hrs noon. They had a lector on Friederike Kempner (1828-1904) or was she the worst German poet. She must be wrong: I never have heard of her. Interesting was the art gallery. But Clarendon Fine Art as the provider was apparently new to me.



In der Nacht wird die Zeit umgestellt, also im Gegensatz zur Transatlantik nicht um 12:00 Uhr mittags. Es findet ein Vortrag über Friederike Kempner (1828-1904) statt, bzw. ob sie die schlechteste deutsche Dichterin sei. Sie muss wohl so schlecht sein: ich kenne sie überhaupt nicht. Interessant ist die Gemäldegalerie. Aber Clarendon Fine Art als Anbieter erscheint mir neu. Die Skulpturen mag ich. Die Shops wie üblich. Absolutes Desinteresse etwas zu verkaufen. Die Tüten im Falle einer Übelkeit verstehe ich nicht: ist doch nicht wie auf der QUEEN VICTORIA 2008 damals. Und auch Erinnerungen damals an den Dreifachanlauf in New York am Ende der Reise. Ich frage mich, wer das mit den Decks 10-11-12 am Fahrstuhl liest. Ich kann es bloß lesen, weil ich einen Zoom und einen Blitz habe. Bruno hat später etwas im Laden noch gefunden, aber zur Anprobe nimmt er alles mit in die Kabine und hat zwei Stunden Zeit, um es wieder zurückzubringen. Beim Teppichlegen fallen die vielen Wölbungen auf.

Aber in diesem Yacht Club gibt es ja gar keine Butler.

Keine Schnittchen und keine kostenlose Getränke. Also freuen wir uns wieder auf den Yacht Club bei MSC.



No snacks and no complimentary beverages. So we were looking forward again for the Yacht Club with MSC.

We went to the presentation of Stewart St. Paul. A famous cinematographer who explained how to create sustained impressions and illusions with the audience.



Wir gehen zum Vortrag von Stewart St. Paul. Ein bekannter Kameramann, der erklärt, wie man nachhaltig Eindrücke und Illusionen beim Publikum hinterlässt.

Allerdings gehen wir vorzeitig raus und so sehe ich, dass die HANSEATIC ganz in der Nähe ist.



But we left a little earlier and so I saw that HANSEATIC was close by.

There she was.



Und da ist sie auch.

In der Kabine werden wir schon an die Zeitumstellung heute Nacht erinnert. Hier muss etwas passiert sein in der Wettervorhersage: für Grad Farenheit zu kalt und für Grad Celcius zu heiß. Die Minibar ist auch offen für den Konsum. Auch wenn wir nur zwei Nächte unterwegs sind. Mein Douglas Ward ist zurück. Die Godiva Schokolade wird in der Türkei hergestellt, also keine belgische Schokolade? Wir müssen noch mehr abkleben, weil die Klimaanlage in der Kabine nicht gleichmäßig läuft. Und Probleme mit den Schränken, die wir bereits auf der QUEEN VICTORIA 2008 hatten, sind wohl noch nicht dauerhaft gelöst. Auf dem Balkon sieht es auch nicht besser aus, als auf der NORWEGIAN SPIRIT 2018. Und dabei ist sie neun Jahre früher in Dienst getreten. Die Nachricht kommt, dass wir vor Verlassen des Schiffes noch zur Einreisekontrolle müssen. Früher fand so etwas immer am Seetag an Bord statt, aber aufgrund der massiven Personalstreichungen bei den britischen Behörden wird das immer seltener angeboten.



In the cabin we were reminded that you need to change the time that night. Something must be happening with the weather forecast: for degree Fahrenheit it was too cold and for degree Celcius too hot. The mini-bar was open for consumption. Although we were only for two nights onboard. My Douglas Ward is back. The Godiva chocolate was produced in Turkey so no more Belgian chocolate? We need to add some more tape as the air-condition did not work steadily. And the problems with the closets we had on QUEEN VICTORIA 2008 were not solved sustainably. On the balcony it did not look better than on NORWEGIAN SPIRIT 2018. But she was already in service nine years longer. The message came that we need to see the immigration inspection before we leave the ship. Then you had it on a day at sea onboard, but due to the massive staff reduction with the British Authorities, it was not offered anymore so often.

New were the nautical charts. As a regular passenger, I did not really know what I should do. The TV set had problems with the format 16:9. They had one German movie channel and a private TV-channel (one to keep people entertained but stupid)...



Neu sind diese Seekarten. Als normaler Passagier kann ich damit allerdings nichts anfangen. Der Fernseher kommt irgendwie mit 16:9 nicht zurecht. Es gibt einen deutschsprachigen Filmkanal und RTL...

Tagsüber ist es sonnig und warm. Schön, um draußen zu verbringen. In der Nacht gehe ich raus, um Bilder zu übertragen. Da ist es eiskalt.

Heading for lunch: Ramkrishna and Odis were our waiters who delivered an excellent service.

Nachmittags geht es zur Tea-Time. Und hier treffen wir auf Sojan, den wir von der QUEEN VICTORIA 2016 her kennen. Er hatte damals mir morgens immer mein Eistee-Arrangement gebracht. Ich habe soviele Sonderwünsche auf dieser Reise: man muss ja nicht überziehen... Ansonsten lernen wir, dass man in Cornwall und in Devon die Scones unterschiedlich genießt: was streicht man erst auf den Scone: erst die Clotted Cream oder erst die Marmelade? Margeret, die wir von unserer OCEAN PRINCESS 2015-Reise kennen, klärt mich über den Unterschied auf. Die Musikerinnen spielen alle meine Lieblingsstücke von Johann Sebastian Bach.



In the afternoon we went for tea-time. And here we met Sojan whom we knew from QUEEN VICTORIA 2016. Here he got me my ice tea-arrangements in the morning. I had so many special requests on this voyage: but you should not overstress... Apart from that, we learned that you enjoy a different way of Scones: what do you spread first on the Scone: first the clotted cream or first the jam? Margeret whom we knew from our sailing on OCEAN PRINCESS 2015 told me the difference. The musicians played all my favorite pieces of music by Johann Sebastian Bach.

Hier treffen wir tatsächlich andere Mitreisende, die sogar schon mittags am Nachbartisch saßen.

It was my birthday actually...

For dinner, we did not go for the Britannia-Restaurant, but we had to go and see what we would miss. So I met also Mark and Alex again who remembered me and greeted me friendly. They never were my waiters but with the next station and you noticed each other. We went to see what they had in the Lido Café to offer, and again I need to say: actually their offer was equivalent maybe better. I should consider dining here in the future.



Da wir abends nicht Britannia-Restaurant essen gehen, gehen wir trotzdem gucken, was wir verpassen. So treffe ich auch Mark und Alex wieder, die mich wiedererkennen und mich freundlichst grüßen. Sie waren nie meine Kellner, aber so am Nachbartisch, so dass man sich wahrgenommen hat. Wir gehen im Lido Café gucken, was es hier gibt und ich wieder sagen: eigentlich ist die Auswahl gleichwertig, wenn nicht gar besser. Ich werde es demnächst doch mal in Erwägung ziehen auch mal abends dort zu essen.

Wir haben den Abend im Coriander verbracht. Leider nicht mehr so schön, wie auf der QUEEN VICTORIA 2016. Damals noch mit indischen Uniformen. Damals gab es ein anderes Konzept. Es wurden alle Gerichte serviert. Nun muss man die Hauptspeisen selbst auswählen. Meine Geburtstagstorte wird hier serviert. Wir teilen sie kurzerhand mit dem ganzen Team: Oberkellner Edu Cotaco und seine Kellner Justin und Crizaldo, sowie das Team aus der Galley Marcelo, Jaime, Jessie. Auf den Nachtisch haben wir verzichtet, da die Torte ja serviert wird.



We stayed the evening in Coriander. Not anymore as nice as on QUEEN VICTORIA 2016. No more Indian style uniforms. Then with a different concept. They served all the dishes. Now you had to select the main course yourself. My birthday cake was served here. We shared it with the entire team: Head Waiter Edu Cotaco and his waiters Justin and Crizaldo and the team from the Galley Marcelo, Jaime, Jessie. We did not take the dessert as we had the cake.

In the morning we booked a box for the theater. You need yourself the front desk because you need to select the box. But unfortunately, you see only the plan on paper. Later we found out that the best seats were under the director. The box we picked: No. 11 - was too high and you could not see very in-depth on the stage. And the spotlights were hanging to close to the box. The reception was disappointing: no promised White Star Bell Boy but only the Entertainment Host Sadhki Jack who was receiving us and escorted us to the box. Meanwhile, Felix was our finger desserts and the beverages. I could also get a non-alcohol cocktail and some water. My enthusiasm for the show was minimal at the beginning of the show. The first songs were unknown to me. But they were from the era of the silent films, and there was no movie scores and songs. "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" was acted a little "extreme". After that it became good. In the beginning, I asked for a list of the tracks. Since I did not get any feedback, I went to the director's box by myself. There I met James Brumby who had no list and who took his record and started to sing every single piece of music that I can identify it. Never I got before more excellent the names of the song.



Morgens haben wir bei Marie wieder eine Loge für das Theater gebucht. Man muss selbst zur Rezeption kommen, weil man sich die Loge selbst aussuchen muss. Aber man sieht leider auf dem Plan nur die Lage auf Papier. Später stellt sich heraus, dass die besten Plätze eher unter der Regie ist. Die Loge, die wir ausgewählt haben: Nr. 11 - ist leider zu hoch und man sieht nicht sehr tief auf die Bühne. Außerdem hängen die Scheinwerfer zu nah zur Loge. Der Empfang ist enttäuschend: kein versprochener White Star Bell Boy, sondern nur ein Entertainment Host Sadhki Jack, der uns empfängt und zur Loge begleitet. Zwischendurch serviert uns Felix unseren Finger-Nachtisch und die Getränke. Ich bekomme auch einen alkoholfreien Cocktail und Wasser. Meine Begeisterung für die Show hält sich in Grenzen am Anfang der Show. Die ersten Titel sind für mich sehr unbekannt. Aber sie stammen eben aus der Ära, als es noch Stummfilme gab und noch keine Filmmusik geschrieben wurden. "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" wird etwas "extrem" vorgetragen. Danach wird es gut. Am Anfang bitte um eine Liste der Stücke. Da ich keine Rückmeldung bekomme, gehe ich selbst zur Regieloge. Dort treffe ich James Brumby, der leider keine Liste hat und kurzerhand sein Script nimmt und mir jedes Stück ansingt, damit ich es wiedererkenne. So toll bin ich noch nie die Namen der Lieder bekommen.

Im Queen's Room ist quasi "Kindergeburtstag" mit Luftballons von der Decke. Die Gruppe, die letzte Nacht im Theater auftreten ist: Four D's treten hier wieder auf. Es herrscht eine tolle Stimmung. Ich bin allerdings zu müde, um noch bei der Show zu bleiben. Ein schöner Abschluss meines Geburtstags.



In the Queen's Room they had more or less "children birthday party" with balloons from the ceiling. The group who performed last night in the theater: Four D' were acting again. They had a great atmosphere. But I was too tired to stay here for the performance. A perfect end to my birthday.
