Tag/Day 0 auf dem Weg/on the way to QUEEN VICTORIA in Hamburg, Germany

Die Reise fängt mit bösen Überraschungen an. Ich hatte extra zum Buchungsstart Mitte Oktober 2017 bei der Deutschen Bahn gebucht, weil ich einen 4-er-Tisch mit einem Umstieg in Mannheim mit längerer Umstiegszeit wollte. Und der Hessische Rundfunk meldet am 06.03.2018 die erfreuliche Nachricht, dass die Deutsche Bahn Millionen Euro in den Unterhalt der Bahnstrecken steckt. Leider ausgerechnet dann, wenn ich fahren will. Ich prüfe meine Verbindung im DB Navigator: "Gl. N/A" - das sieht komisch aus.



The voyage started with some bad surprises. I looked especially at the start of booking mid of October 2017 with DB German Railways because I wanted to have a table for 4 with one transfer in Mannheim, Germany with an extended transfer time. And the German TV reported on March 06, 2018 the happy message that the DB German Railways would invest millions of euro to maintain the track network. Unfortunately at that time when I scheduled to go. I checked my connection in the DB app: "Track unavailable" - looked strange.

I asked DB on Facebook: I was told that I had the duty to verify currently for any changes in schedule times. I had a saving ticket with a fixed connection. They had my contact details. Why they could not inform me? They would do it. I had to activate the delay-alert.



Ich frage bei DB auf Facebook an: mir teilt man mit, dass ich verpflichtet sei, dass ich ständig meine Verbindung auf Fahrplanänderungen prüfen muss. Ich habe einen Sparpreis mit Zugbindung. Sie haben meine Kontaktdaten. Warum können sie mich nicht informieren? Sie würden es tun. Ich muss nur den Verspätungs-Alarm aktivieren.

Den habe ich immer aktiviert. Aber der weiß auch nicht mehr als ich.



I had it activated as always. But it did not know more than me.

On March 17, 2018, I received the mail that my connection has been changed, and I should check myself for a new itinerary: no suggestion with alternative options. No information about what would happen with our reserved seats.



Am 17.03.2018 kommt dann eine Mail, dass sich meine Verbindung verändert hat und ich soll mir eine neue Verbindung: kein Vorschlag mit Alternativ-Terminen. Kein Hinweis, was mit den reservierten Plätzen passiert.

Mein Zug fährt nicht mehr ab Stuttgart über Mannheim, sondern ab Frankfurt (Main) Flughafen. Einmal mehr in Franfkurt (Main) Hbf umsteigen! Einmal darf ich umbuchen. Damit habe ich meinen Tisch verloren. Um meinen Tisch wiederzubekommen, muss ich nochmals 11,80 EUR extra zahlen.



My train did not start anymore from Stuttgart, Germany via Mannheim, Germany but from Frankfurt (Main) Airport, Germany. One more transfer in Frankfurt (Main) Central Station, Germany. I was allowed to rebook one time. So I would lose my table. To get back my table I need to pay 11.80 EUR extra.

A part of the baggage we sent ahead by DB Baggage Service operated by Hermes (Home - Home, Home - Hotel, Home - Airport, Home - Cruise Ship within Germany and selected destinations abroad). It should arrive the day ahead of our arrival with the hotel.



Ein Teil des Gepäcks haben wir per DB Gepäckseervice ausgeführt durch Hermes voraus geschickt. Es hätte am Vortag unserer Anreise im Hotel ankommen sollen.

Es kommt nicht an. Wir haben Glück, weil wir nach den Öffnungszeiten des Call-Centers für den DB Gepäckservice eine engagierte Mitarbeiterin beim "normalen" Hermes-Service erwischt, die mehr macht und sorgt dafür, dass sich jemand am nächsten Morgen um alles kümmert und der Koffer doch noch zugestellt wird.



It did not arrive. We had luck since we called after the opening times of the DB Baggage Service the "regular" service of Hermes and got an involved agent who walked an extra mile and made sure that someone would take care the next morning and the baggage would be delivered the next day.

We started at Frankfurt Airport in the Paulaner Restaurant in The Squaire.

Im ICE nach Hamburg ist es richtig lustig. Der Zug ist überbucht, weil wegen der Baustellen in Hessen, einige Züge gestrichen wurden. Wir haben aber viel Spaß im Zug und kaufen quasi den ganzen Vorrat an Chips leer. Sogar ein Eiscafé ohne Sahne (gibt es nicht mehr an Bord) bekomme ich von 1.-Klasse-Stewardess Sigrid Hunger, die von meiner 12-jährigen Pendelei zwischen Braunschweig und Mannheim kenne und wiedererkenne. Zugchefin Anja Szeglat sorgt dafür, dass wir uns bis Hamburg sehr gut im "Kuschenexpress" amüsieren.



In the ICE InterCity Express High Speeed Train it was really funny. The train was overbooked because of the many construction sites in Hesse some trains were canceled. We really had fun on the train and bought more or less the whole stock of chips. Even I could have a coffee sundae without whipped cream (they did not have it anymore onboard) from the 1st class stewardess Sigrid Hunger whom I knew from 12 years commuting between Brunswick, Germany and Mannheim, Germany and remembered her. Train Manager Anja Szeglat made sure that it was very amusing in the "cuddling express" to Hamburg, Germany.

In the Central Station we went to Sixt. Here we booked a car with the automobilist club ADAC.



In Hauptbahnhof geht es zu Sixt. Hier haben wir einen Wagen über den ADAC gebucht.

Bis zum Parkhaus muss man den Block entlang des Schauspielhauses laufen. Einfach gegenüber am Ausgang zur Kirchenallee.



You need to walk to the parking alongside one block of the Schauspielhaus (Theater). Just adjustent of the exit towards Kirchenallee.

Next, at the stage entrance, you can get in.



Neben dem Bühneneingang geht es auch rein.

Unten erwartet uns ein VW Touran.



Down a Volkswagen Touran was awaiting for us.

First we went to our Hotel The Rilano. Here we stayed multiple times before.



Wir fahren zunächst zum Hotel The Rilano. Hier waren wir schon öfters zuvor.

Mit der HADAG-Fähre fahren wir rüber auf die an die andere Elbseite. Etwas kompliziert: für meine Mitfahrer muss man die Tickets einzeln am iPhone lösen und personalisieren. Der Fähranleger Rüschpark liegt direkt vor dem Hotel.



With ferry service of HADAG we went over to the other side of the river Elbe. It was a little complicated: for my co-passengers, I need to buy for each one a single ticket on my iPhone and personalize them. The ferry pier Rüschpark was just in front of the hotel.

We met at the Restaurant Engel. The restaurant is owned by Tarik Rose who is popular as TV-cook in Northern Germany. Accordingly, the prices were. So some were a little disappointed that their dish was oversalted. That review disappointed the cook who made sure that we got a small dessert on the house. So we pre-celebrated my birthday.



Wir treffen uns mit Sigi im Restaurant Engel. Das Restaurant gehört Tarik Rose, der als Fernsehkoch in Norddeutschland bekannt ist. Dementsprechend sind auch die Preise. Deswegen sind auch einige etwas enttäuscht, dass das Essen versalzen ist. Das Urteil widerum enttäuscht sehr den Koch, der dafür sorgt, dass wir einen kleinen Nachtisch auf Kosten des Hauses bekommen. So feiern wir etwas meinen Geburtstag vor.

Das Restaurant befindet sich auf dem Ponton des Fähranlegers Teufelsbrück. Und so habe ich den besten Platz, um die Ausfahrt der AIDAprima zu fotografieren.



The restaurant was located on the pontoon of the ferry pier in Teufelsbrück. And so I had the best spot to take a picture when AIDAprima was leaving.

And later AIDAcara came also by.



Und später kommt noch die AIDAcara vorbei.
