Our journey begins at the new Terminal 3, which opened in April 2026. We had booked British Airways Business Class. Unfortunately, since Brexit, air traffic between the financial hubs of London and Frankfurt has dropped so sharply that British Airways now operates only three flights a day. At Terminal 2, we had access to the Japan Airlines lounge — complete with a Japanese-style toilet. Regrettably, we were restricted to the Priority Pass Lounge area. The terminal is only a few weeks old, yet the air conditioning is already struggling to cope with the heat. Consequently, we grabbed a quick bite and drink, preferring to wait in the terminal itself, where it was cooler. In any case, this arrangement is likely only temporary, as Qatar Airways is expected to provide the lounge for Oneworld carriers in the future. That could turn out to be quite a surprise.British Airways has launched a quality drive, so the food is genuinely good and the internet is free. There was even a scone. Once again, I couldn't decide between the Cornwall and Devon methods — that is, whether to put the jam on first followed by the clotted cream, or the clotted cream first followed by the jam. I admit I’m too German — I always spread butter on my bread first — so I’m more accustomed to the Devon style. We cross the Rhine near Riedstadt/Stockstadt. Unfortunately, since we’re approaching London from the other side this time, there aren't any great photos. Still, the flight is a lot of fun, and it shows.

Since we are arriving at Heathrow Terminal 5, taking the National Express for the next leg of our journey makes sense. However, the trip we booked is already showing as delayed. We pay a hefty premium to catch an earlier bus. I’m annoyed with myself for not paying the 5 GBP fee in advance for some flexibility; it costs a fortune at the last minute. But given the temperatures, we have no desire to wait any longer at Heathrow, so we pay up — albeit grudgingly — only to find out moments later that the bus we just paid extra for doesn't stop at Terminal 5 and is running late, too. We’re told to go to Terminal 2/3 and transfer there. The connecting bus to Southampton is waiting there, but there are no seats together. We’ve been together for 28 years; surely we can survive the two-hour ride to Southampton apart. The driver thanks us for being accommodating enough to come to Terminal 2/3, as it allows him to make up some of the lost time. Since we’re sitting in an air-conditioned bus — even if it’s struggling a bit with the high outside temperatures — we take it in stride. It’s better than being outside. Once in Southampton, we realize why the driver was in such a rush: he was being relieved of duty mid-route, and his shift was ending. We take a taxi to the Voco Hotel. We were there just recently (COSTA DIADEMA 2026). Since nothing has likely changed in the last four weeks, I’ll skip the "negatives" (Photo) this time...
