Tag/Day 0.A auf dem Weg zur/on the way to QUEEN VICTORIA in London, England

Irgendwie fühlen wir uns bei Cunard immer wohler. Deswegen muss Bruno noch Diamond Cunard World Club-Mitglied vor unserer Transatlantik nächstes Jahr werden. Außerdem brauchen wir zwischen Oktober und März eine kleine Pause auf einem Schiff. Wir fliegen mit BA CityFlyer nach London-City. Nach dem letzten Flop in der Business Class auf dem Weg zurück von der VALIANT LADY 2022, biete ich nicht mehr für die Business Class mit und stecke lieber das Geld in ein Essen am Flughafen. Leider sind wir im Terminal 2 und da ist das Angebot nicht so gut, wie im Terminal 1. Wir essen bei Ludwigs: vor der Passkontrolle und vor der Sicherheitskontrolle. Eigentlich habe ich das ja lieber hinter mich. Das geht aber im Terminal 2 gar nicht. Wie typisch an einem Flughafen: nicht gerade preiswert, nicht unbedingt ein Highlight der Kulinarik, aber besser noch als das Upgrade in die Business Class von BA CityFlyer und wieder nur ein Käse-Sandwich. Bruno fand seinen Salat gut und ich als Ex-Berliner, der mit der Frankfurter Rindswurst nichts anfangen kann, werde diese Currywurst auch überleben.



Somehow, we feel more and more comfortable at Cunard. Bruno must still become a Diamond Cunard World Club member before our transatlantic next year. We also need a short break on a ship between October and March. We fly to London City with BA CityFlyer. After the last flop in business class on the way back from the VALIANT LADY 2022, I am no longer bidding for business class and would instead put the money into a meal at the airport. Unfortunately, we are in Terminal 2, and the offer there could be better than in Terminal 1. We ate at Ludwig's before passport control and security. I'd rather have this behind me. But that doesn't work at all in Terminal 2. As is typical at an airport: not exactly cheap, not necessarily a culinary highlight, but better than the upgrade to business class from BA CityFlyer and, again, just a cheese sandwich. Bruno thought his salad was good, and I, as an ex-Berliner who can't do anything with Frankfurter beef sausage, will survive this currywurst, too.









In contrast to the flights to London Heathrow, there is something free on the flights to London City: drinks, a bag of chips and a granola bar. There needs to be more space in the galley for the sales offer. We're unlucky: three passengers decide not to fly at the last minute. Their luggage must be unloaded again. Couldn't they have thought of this earlier? It starts with a corresponding delay.



Im Gegensatz zu den Flügen nach London-Heathrow gibt es auf den Flügen nach London City noch etwas kostenlos. Getränke, eine Tüte Chips und einen Müsliriegel. Der Platz in der Galley reicht leider nicht für das Verkaufsangebot. Wir haben Pech: Drei Passagiere beschließen in letzter Minute nicht mitzufliegen. Ihr Gepäck muss wieder ausgeladen werden. Hätten sie sich das nicht früher überlegen können? Mit entsprechender Verspätung geht es los.

Der Vorteil an London City: die Dockland Railways (DLR) führt direkt nach Stratford. Sie würde auch nach Bank gehen. Aber die Hotels rund um Bank sind unbezahlbar und die U-Bahn von Bank nach Waterloo fährt am Wochenende nicht. Von Stratford kommen wir am nächsten Tag direkt mit der U-Bahn nach Waterloo. Am Bahnhof erfahren wir, dass ab morgen Abend ein Streik des U-Bahn-Personals beginnt. Also haben wir Glück, dass wir nur noch morgen Mittag die U-Bahn nutzen können. Der Fahrkartenkauf ist sehr einfach: die kontaktlose Kreditkarte beim Zugang gegen den Leser halten und das gleiche wieder beim Verlassen der DLR.

We discovered a tube staff strike at the station is starting tomorrow evening. So we're lucky that we can only use the tube tomorrow at lunchtime. Purchasing a ticket is simple: hold your contactless credit card against the reader when entering and do the same again when leaving the DLR.

The first day ends at the Moxy Hotel — just a three-minute walk from Stratford station. I'm not fond of it much, but it's logistically sound and affordable by London standards. I will never get used to the colors and style of the hotel. At least there are Marriott Bonvoy points here.




Der erste Tag endet im Moxy Hotel. Nur drei Minuten zu Fuß vom Bahnhof Stratford. Ich mag es nicht so, aber liegt logistisch gut und es ist für Londoner Verhältnisse bezahlbar. An die Farben und den Stil des Hotels werde ich mich nie gewöhnen. Zumindest gibt es hier Punkte von Marriott Bonvoy.
