Der Morgen beginnt wunderschön. Ich genieße den Sonnenaufgang am Heck des Schiffes.
The morning started beautifully. I enjoyed the sunrise at the aft of the ship.With this nice lighting, the upper deck appeared entirely different. More friendly. I took the occasion to check the hydrant and the light pole where you could pee (as a dog).
Bei diesem schönen Licht erscheint auch das Oberdeck ganz anders. Viel freundlicher. Ich gehe mir auch mal bei der Gelegenheit den Hydranten und den Lichtmast ansehen, an dem man (als Hund) gegenpinkeln kann.Der zweite Grund für ein mögliches Fiasko am Frühstückstisch fällt weg: Im "Kreisverkehr" vor Portsmouth (offensichtlich müssen wohl alle Schiffe so einen 2/3-Kreis fahren, bevor sie in den Solent einbiegen dürfen) kann ich ganz tolle Bilder von der BRITANNIA machen. Insgeheim bin ich froh, dass wir die BRITANNIA-Kreuzfahrt storniert haben und jetzt auf die VENTURA gehen. Ich mag es doch einen Tick kleiner.
The second reason for a potential fiasco at breakfast was deleted: In the "roundabout" in front of Portsmouth, England (obviously all ships need to go in a 2/3 circle before they could enter the river Solent) I could make great pictures of BRITANNIA. Honestly, I was quite happy that we canceled the BRITANNIA-cruise and now would go on VENTURA. I prefer to have it a little smaller.Before we docked, I saw NAVIGATOR OF THE SEA again. I would be a good chance to book her ahead or right after our SIRENA, but somehow I could not make any decision. Might be more ahead to limit the size of the shock.
Bevor wir anlegen, sehe ich auch nochmals die NAVIGATOR OF THE SEAS. Es würde sich anbieten sie noch vor der SIRENA oder direkt danach zu buchen, aber irgendwie habe ich dazu noch keine Meinung. Wenn wohl eher nur davor, damit der Schock nicht so groß ist.Ein Blick nach vorne: wir legen leider direkt an, ohne vorher zu drehen oder vorher eine Runde durch das Hafenbecken von Southampton zu drehen. Schade.

Schade, dass unsere Zeit nicht zulässt ihn zum Mittagessen einzuladen oder so. Und noch ein guter Freund, den wir von früheren Reisen seit der QUEEN MARY 2 2015 kennen: Dinesh. Er weist uns einen schönen Tisch am Fenster zu. Wir bekommen schon fast deutsches Frühstück mit Aufschnittplatte. Da Ausschiffung ist, halten wir uns mit Sonderwünschen zurück. Bruno bekommt tatsächlich ein weich-gekochtes Ei. Nur leider sind unsere Kellner am Schluss verschwunden, als ich gerne noch ein Bild mit ihnen machen will, denn ich muss dringenst von Bord.
Heading for the last breakfast but first of all we need to congratulate: Abdulsharief hat birthday that day. So sad that our time did not permit us to invite him for lunch or something like that. And another good friend we knew since QUEEN MARY 2 2015: Dinesh. He allocated us to a very nice table at the window. We got a kind like German breakfast with a cold cut plate. As we had debarkation, we restrict ourselves with special orders. Bruno really got a soft boiled egg. Unfortunately, our waiters were disappeared when I need to rush off the ship. I really would love to have a picture of them.I walked through the passport inspection on board and later on with the cards I left the ship.

Ich lasse mich zu Avis am Flughafen fahren. Sie haben leider kein Büro mehr in der Stadt. Vorher waren sie am Tor 8 direkt neben dem Holiday Inn.Eigentlich öffnen sie erst um 09:30 Uhr. Weil aber drei Schiffe in der Stadt sind, bin ich froh, dass ich bereits da bin und auch den Wagen etwas früher bekomme.
Actually they would open at 09:30 hrs. Because there were three ships in town, I was happy that I was already there and so could get the car a little earlier.They offered me for about 30 GBP more an Upsell: I wanted to try anyhow the Skoda Kodiak and all bags should fit into the car.
Man bietet mir für ca. 30 GBP mehr ein Upsell an: Den Skoda Kodiak wollte ich schon immer mal ausprobieren und hier sollte auch das ganze Gepäck passen.Wir fahren nach Reading, das auf dem Weg zum Flughafen Heathrow liegt und gehen dort direkt Mittagessen. Hier gibt es ein schönes Jamie's Italian von Jamie Oliver. Eigentlich hatten wir eine Einladung noch von Gordon Ramsey in der Bread Street in London ausstehen, aber das wäre jetzt zuviel Stress. Das wichtige ist, dass sie das Angebot gemacht haben, es wieder gutmachen wollen und sich für den Service damals nach der QUEEN MARY 2 2017 entschuldigt haben. Das genügt mir, um Gordon Ramsey wieder zu besuchen. Hier bei Jamie Oliver lassen uns es wirklich gutgehen. Es ist hier doch einiges besser als auf der QUANTUM OF THE SEAS 2014. Die Vorspeisen teilen wir uns. Die sind einfach klasse. Auch die Hauptgerichte sind gut. Meine Fleischklößchen sind mir ein wenig zu scharf, aber so esse ich mehr von den getrüffelten Pommes Frites und Polentawürfel, die sehr lecker sind. Und dann ist unsere Kellnerin "bösartig". Sie lässt einfach die Dessertkarte auf dem Tisch, obwohl wir nicht wollen. Die Buchstaben werden immer größer, so dass ich auch ohne Brille die Sorbetsorten lesen kann. Und dann ist es passiert. Aber es ist sehr lecker und fruchtig. Wir nutzen das gegenüberliegende Shopping Center The Oracle noch, um ein paar Kleinigkeiten bei Boots zu kaufen: Wundversorgung für Bruno, da es doch immer schmerzhafter wird. We hatten angefragt, ob Brunos Eltern sich solange vor dem Restuarant Platz nehmen dürften, um auf uns zu warten: sie haben ihm sogar Wasser serviert. So kaufe ich noch Souvenirs von Jamie Oliver um die schönen Erinnerungen an einen tollen Besuch zu vervollständigen.
We went to Reading, England which was on the way towards Heathrow Airport and went there for lunch. Here they had a very nice Jamie's Italian by Jamie Oliver. Actually, we still had an invitation for Gordon Ramsey in Bread Street, London, England but that would be too much stress. The most important was that they offered us to make it good and apologized. That was enough to see Gordon Ramsey again. Here with Jamie Oliver we really got pampered. It was much better than on QUANTUM OF THE SEAS 2014. We shared the starters. They just were great. The entrees were good too. My meatballs were a little too spicy or me but so I had more of the truffled French Fries and the Polenta cubes which were really yummy. Our waitress was somehow "vicious". She left simply the dessert menu on the table although we did not want. The letters became larger and larger so I could also read without my glasses the variation of sherbets they had. And then it happened. But it was very yummy and fruity. We used the shopping mall The Oracle opposite to make some purchases with Boots: Caretaking of Bruno's wounds as it started to hurt more and more. We asked if Bruno's parents could sit outside the restaurant and wait for us: they also got them some water. So I bought some souvenirs from Jamie Oliver for Bruno's parents to complete the wonderful memories of our visit.Downton Abbey - or better the film set of: Highclere Castle. But want to have for a visit today 625.00 GBP for 5 persons. So we waived this point.

So verzichten drauf.Wir müssen auch auf die Alternativen verzichten. Denn es kommen die Meldungen rein, dass der Hamburger Flughafen geschlossen ist, weil es dort keinen Strom gibt. So brechen wir alles ab und bringen Sigi zum Flughafen Heathrow, damit sie bei Eurowings sich möglichst frühzeitig, um eine Alternative bemühen kann. Auch Bruno setzen wir hier direkt ab, weil damit ich nicht wieder zum Terminal 2 zurück muss.
We need to also to skip the alternatives. We got messages that Hamburg Airport, Germany was closed as they had no electric power. So we just suspended our schedule and took Sigi to Heathrow Airport so she could contact at the most earliest time Eurowings to get an alternative. We also dropped off Bruno here so we must not return to Terminal 2.After we filled up the car we took back the car to Avis.

The shuttle-service was lousy. Poor frequency of service. Poor station management.The driver refused to help with baggage. Her preferred to stay seated or only conducted.
Der Fahrer weigert sich beim Gepäck zu helfen. Er bleibt lieber sitzen oder dirigiert.Für ihn ist das eine rollende Diskothek, um lautstark die Fahrgäste zu terrorisieren.
For him it was a moving night-club to terrorize the passengers extremely loud.We had extreme unluck: Luxembourg and 20 further destinations were served from Terminal 3 by British Airways and not Terminal 5. It would be so smart since Avis had a return point at Terminal 5 and we need not use to return on the moving night-club of Avis.
Wir haben ausgesprochenes Pech: Luxemburg und 20 weitere Zielorte wird von British Airways vom Terminal 3 und nicht vom Terminal 5 bedient. Es wäre so praktisch gewesen, weil Avis am Terminal 5 Autos zurückgenommen hätte und wir nicht hätten mit der seltenen rollen Diskothek von Avis zurückfahren müssen.Im Terminal 5 waren sie sehr freundlich. Obwohl meine Check-In-Zeit noch gar nicht angefangen hat, haben sie mir am Schalter für Special Assistance (wir sind dort auf Weisung der BA-Mitarbeiter hingegangen) meinen Koffer schon abgenommen, damit ich beide Hände frei habe, um Brunos Eltern zu helfen. Im Terminal 3 gibt es eine lautstarke Auseinandersetzung, warum hier nicht der gleiche freundliche Service angeboten wird, wie im Terminal 5. Danach geht alles sehr schnell: weil ich Brunos Eltern nicht begleiten und anschließend mit dem Infield-Transit-Bus zum Terminal 5 fahren darf, besorgen sie sofort eine Begleitung für Brunos Eltern.
In Terminal 5 everybody was very friendly. Although my check-in time did not start they accepted my bag at the special assistance counter (we went there because we were instructed by BA-staff members) so I had both hands available to support Bruno's parents. In Terminal 3 we had a loud altercation why they would not offer us the same friendly service as in Terminal 5. Right after that, it went very quickly: because I could not join Bruno's parents and use later the infield-transfer-bus to Terminal 5 they arranged some escort for Bruno's parents.They could wait in an exclusive lounge, and someone would escort them right on time to their flight.
Sie können dann in einer speziellen Lounge warten und werden rechtzeitig zum Flugzeug gebracht.Die Abholung in Luxemburg erfolgt durchs Brunos Schwester, aber ihr Flug ist leicht verspätet.
The pick-up in Luxembourg was arranged by Bruno's sister but their flight was slightly delayed.I need to change by train from Terminal 3 to Terminal 5. You need to get a free ticket at the machine and take the public train to Terminal 5. As all was complimentary, I just took the 1st class.
Ich muss dann mit dem Zug vom Terminal 3 zum Terminal 5. Man muss sich einfach ein kostenloses Ticket am Automaten ziehen und mit den öffentlichen Zügen zum Terminal 5 rüber. Da ja alles kostenlos ist, nehme ich einfach die 1. Klasse.Ich hätte gerne mit Brunos Eltern hier bei Gordon Ramsey Plane Food gegessen, aber das geht ja leider nicht. Das Thunfisch-Tartar ist so gut: ich nehme mir noch eine Portion mit in das Flugzeug.
I really would like to dine here with Bruno's parents with Gordon Ramsey Plane Food but I could not unfortunately. The tuna tartar was so good: I took an additional portion for my flight.In between, I went one more time to buy something with Boots, and I was surprised to learn how cheap everything was compared to the USA. It was double as much in the US, and I was here at the most expensive airport. The times of doing shopping in the USA were apparently gone.
Zwischendurch gehe ich nochmals zu Boots einkaufen und dabei fällt mir auf, wie preisgünstig es hier im Vergleich zu den USA ist. Doppelt so teuer in den USA und ich bin hier im teuersten Flughafen. Die Zeiten mit USA und Shopping sind wohl vorbei.Mein Flug ist auch extrem verspätet. Mit Ach und Krach schaffen wir es vor Nachtflugverbot in Berlin-Tegel. Kaum ist der Flug in Heathrow aufgerufen, ist auch schon der Ausgang geschlossen, obwohl noch niemand eingestiegen ist. Ich genieße mein Thunfisch-Tartar von Gordon Ramsey. Den Kaffee im Flugzeug finde ich ganz schrecklich (den musste man kaufen). Der wird griechisch-türkisch aufgebrühlt und durch den Filter am Mundstück getrunken. Wir hätten Sigi mitnehmen können, da wir südlich von Hamburg vorbeifliegen.
My flight was extremely late. We could make it arrive in Berlin, Germany right before the airport was closed for night operation. The flight was just announced for boarding when the gate was closing although none was boarding yet. I enjoyed my tuna tartar from Gordon Ramsey. The coffee on the plane was really terrible (you had to buy for). They brew it the Greek-Turkish way, and you had to drink it through the lid. We could also have Sigi with us as we were passing South of Hamburg.Bruno was the only one who made it on time departing. Once he arrived in Frankfurt, Germany the baggage claim did not work correctly.
Bruno ist der einzige von uns, der an diesem Tag pünktlich abfliegt. Erst als er in Frankfurt ankommt, läuft einiges bei der Gepäckausgabe nicht rund.Nach dem letzten Fiasko mit dem Valet-Parken, wollten wir eigentlich nicht mehr. Der Vermittler hat mir einen Nachlass bei der nächsten Buchung angeboten und die Sache liegt bei der Staatsanwaltschaft. Dann habe ich aber gesehen, dass auch Platzhirsch jetzt auch einen Valet-Service (Park Mich) anbietet. Wegen der späten Ankunft ist der Valet-Teil nur für die Rückgabe gebucht. Das klappt erstaunlich gut und findet auf P29 neben Ankunft Terminal 1 A1 (Durchgang zu den Toiletten).
After the last disaster with the valet-parking we did not want anymore. The broker offered a discount for a future booking, and now it was a case with the Prosecuting Attorney. Then I saw that also Platzhirsch offered a valet-service (Park mich) too. Due to the late arrival, I only booked the valet part for car return. That work pretty well and it was done on P29 next to the arrival hall Terminal A1 (follow the aisle to the toilets).As a thank, you gesture that we used the valet service we found a pleasant surprise in the car.
Und als Dankeschön, dass wir den Valet-Service nutzen, liegt eine Überraschung im Auto.Als wir ja Probleme mit dem Valet-Service nach der NORWEGIAN SPIRIT 2018 hatten, waren wir im Moxy-Hotel Frankfurt um dort auf den ADAC zu warten. Das Moxy-Hotel in Berlin Gesundbrunnen ist auch mein Domizil für die nächsten zwei Wochen. Denn ich habe eine Schulung im Berliner Umland, aber direkt gegenüber fahren S-Bahn und RegionalExpress direkt dahin. Nach der QUEEN MARY 2 ist das nun ein kleiner Kulturschock. So wie damals nach der EURODAM 2014 auf die NORWEGIAN SKY 2015. Eigentlich ist es absolut nicht mein Hotel: es gehört zum Marriott und ist das ehemalige Holiday Inn am Gesundbrunnen, das ich eigentlich buchen wollte. Mein erster Anruf mit eigenem Smartphone zur Rezeption: der vorige Gast hat das Zimmertelefon, den Zimmersafe, den Kleiderschrank, den Abfallkorb, die Wäscheleine und die Öse am Handtuch (um es aufhängen zu können) geklaut. Leider lief auch die nagelneue Klimaanlage nicht, weil die Stromversorgung nicht angepasst wurde. Dafür gab es andere Details, die man nicht immer in jedem Marriott bekommt: z. B. USB-Ports an den Steckdosen und ein Nachtlicht mit Bewegungsmelder im Bad. Das können noch zwei spannende Wochen in Berlin und in diesem Hotel werden. Der nächste Blog beginnt dann Anfang Juli von der NORWEGIAN JADE. Dann geht es zurück von Southampton nach Hamburg. Und Cunard sehen wir vsl. Ende 2019 wieder. Ist aber noch nicht fest gebucht. Dorothy ist gerade auf der CARNIVAL HORIZON. Die Transatlantik Januar 2020 auf der QUEEN MARY 2 haben wir verschoben. Das möchten wir doch einmal auch in einer wärmeren Jahreszeit erleben.
When we had trouble with the valet-service after our sailing on NORWEGIAN SPIRIT 2018 we waited in the Moxy-Hotel Frankfurt, Germany for the breakdown assistance service. The Moxy-Hotel in Berlin, Germany would be my home for the next two weeks. I had a training in the suburbs of Berlin but just opposite you had commuter and regional express trains going there. After QUEEN MARY 2 it was somehow a cultural shock. Like then we went from EURODAM 2014 to NORWEGIAN SKY 2015. Actually, it was not my hotel: it was part of the Marriott, and it was the previous Holiday Inn which I wanted to book. My first call was with my own smartphone to reach the front desk: the previous guest stole the room phone, room safe, the closet, the waste in, the laundry rope and the loop at the towels (to hang on the towels). Unfortunately, the brand new air condition did not work either because they did not adjust the electric power supply. But you had some other details you would not get in other Marriotts: like USB-ports at the power outlets or a night lamp with a moving detector in the bathroom. It could become two quite interesting weeks in Berlin and in this hotel. The next blog will start in July from NORWEGIAN JADE when we move back from Southampton, England to Hamburg, Germany. And Cunard might see us End of 2019 back. The booking was not fixed so far. Dorothy was on CARNIVAL HORIZON. We would move the Transatlantic in January 2020 on QUEEN MARY 2.
